Sure hope Homemaker has a nice, safe trip. A preacher once said that he thought h-ll must be standing in line at an amusement park line for eternity! Hope Six Flags Over Oklahoma is good for her and the family. Ahhhhh, Texas is summertime....can't you just smell the steam? heehee. I am very anxious to here what hm has to say about my beloved home state, actually. I forgot to ask her where in Texas she would be visiting.

Prayers for pipeman, Mrs. Wiley, Sean and everyone else.

Well not much going on at my end of the porch. Been enjoying unseasonably cool weather. It's been 50's at night and 70's in the daytime. But summer is breathin' down our necks, with 80's next week.

Have a great weekend everyone.
AFD!

June 26, 2004 - Msg 21936: Wow, AFD, 70's during the day! Where are you from, I forgot? It hasn't been as hot as usual here either due to all the rain. August is usually our hottest month so we have alot of hot weather ahead of us. Hey, thanks for praying for Sean. I cut back some on one of his meds and he has been doing better the last couple of days and today a good friend of mine told me about a class for kids with Dyslexia that begins in the Fall. It is through Scottish Right so it is free to any kid who needs it. My friend says that it really helped his foster son with his reading and phonics so that might be an answer to prayer. You know, if I begin to worry and get bogged down with negative thinking, things just don't go well in any area of my life so I have to trust Sean to a loving God and knowing that others pray for him really keeps hope in my heart. I called an old friend last week that I had not talked to in almost a year and she didn't know that Sean's problems had gotten so much worse over the past several months. She told me that about 2 months ago, God started prompting her to pray for Sean. I was very thankful for that.

Well, I certainly hope you all have a wonderful evening....gotta go!

June 28, 2004 - Msg 21958: Howdy, all! I'm posting from my daughter-in-law's 'puter here in Florida. My son's has too many bells and whistles, I just leave it alone, but this one I understand. My own new one is here, and will be set up tomorrow by the friend who built it, and I'll take it for a test drive. After everything is done and proven on it, it'll be shipped in time to get to my house a day or so after I do next week. Friends, and sons who have friends, can come in very handy.

It's beautiful here, has rained every evening so far, but the first 2/3 of the day is gorgeous. The rain starts as a thunderstorm, which the Plum doesn't like. My son noticed she was velcroed to my ankle, and told her to be glad she wasn't a giraffe. (teehee) Yes, he's a fan, too. Anyway, the rain here is not a problem. The whole state is a big sandspit, so rain just soaks right in, the lake rises a little, and in the morning, it's all gorgeous and there's no mud. At home, with the clay belt that runs through north Texas, rain like this would have the creeks raging, water standing in everyone's yard, swarms of mosquitoes, and flowers rotting away in their beds. Believe it or not, with a huge mile-wide lake and a hundred-yard wide belt of wetland around it in the back yard, I have yet to see a mosquito. I don't understand it.

The Plum and I had our picture taken today. My son has commissioned an artist to do a watercolor of the two of us together (me and the Plum) and he works from photos. So those were done today, and the watercolor may even be finished before we leave here next Monday.

Boo, I'm glad you're seeing some improvement in Sean. I just know everything is going to turn out well for him. He has such a sweet little spirit.

Well, gotta run. Son and DIL had to go to a business reception, will be home shortly, and we'll have a pleasant evening together. Everyone have a great week, and Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

AFD, you are so kind. I can't thank you enough for your prayers for Sean. God is good. Those temperatures you describe sound like Spring in Texas. Down here is is very nice for about 6 months out of the year but the other 6 are just too hot for my liking, at least down here on the coast with the high humidity. The humidity is in the 90% range most everyday during the summer.

June 29, 2004 - Msg 21975: Hi MDC. No, that is not where Boo came from, but good guess. Remember the episode where there is "big time" crook in the jail and Gomer has his face about 2 inches from the bars just staring at the crook and the crook looks at Gomer and says, "BOO"? Well, that's not how I got the name Boo either but that's what I like to claim. Actually, its a very long story how Boo came about but in the beginning everyone thought I was a male with the nickname Boo (after Boo Radley in To Kill A Mockingbird). After I "came out" and confessed to being a girl, I stuck with the name anyway because there are references to "Boo" in TAGS, as you pointed out. Now, I am finished with my long explanation (whew!).

I sure don't know where pipeman is, Spot but am concerned about him. Hope he checks in soon.

I have a quote for all you fine folks from Mr. Satchel Paige: "Work like you need the money, love like you've never been hurt, and dance like nobody is watching." Pretty good advice for fine folks, ain't it?

Sara, it has been really wet here, too and the mosquitos are BIG, let me tell you. The cloudy weather has sure been nice and keeping us unseasonably cool.

Had a Krispy Kreme donut today. Who was it that always used to leave us Krispy Kremes on the porch? Was it Possum or Fun Girl?

Gotta go take my puppy to the vet for her second set of shots. I am concerned because her hair is starting to fall out for some reason. It doesn't look like mange just patches of lost hair. Could be fleas I guess, she was too young to put Advantage on yet.

Ya'll have a great day,

June 30, 2004 - Msg 21983: Boo- thanks for the explanation. I sure DO know the scene with Gomer. One of his funniest expressions! You certainly do not have to go into any other expln. I just thought it was and interesting handle, and yes, I thought of TKaM also.
We sure could use some of u all's rain in AZ and Phx! Several fires going right now in some of the srub brush areas.
I think HM's family was heading for six flags, but now I think it was in Oklahoma.
Sara- ever try Glucosomine/condroitin for the elbow.? It sounds like a big drug but is actually a natural cartalige re-builder.
I sure helps my back.
Mayberry Girl- good to hear from you and possum again. I guess those APB's finally worked.!!
Ask the pipeman to stop by again too. We're all pullin and prayin for him.
Saw the "bachelors" ep last night. Opie is sure cute as a button in that big apron as he "dries"

Andy has a cute line too. Somthing like "..that's like saying ya milk a cow to get strong fingers." teehee
We're having about 5 neighbors over for a good old fashion BBQ on Friday evening. We used to do an actual block party on the 4th but so many have grown up and/ or moved away, there's only a few of us original buyers left. Still lots of fun.
It always reminds me of a Mayberry gathering.

Asa

June 30, 2004 - Msg 21986: Asa, I found out about it thru a google search.
(And i actually buy it at BIG Lots, aka McFrugels!)
It is good stuff. I started going natural about three years ago when doc wanted to put me on a strong cholesterol med, that has a zillion side effects, and that's when i started "googling" for alternatives. I do all natural stuff now except a little digitalis for my heart rythum, and that is made from a plant anyway! Also, a good one that puts moisture back into muscle tissue is hylaronic acid, made by the body, but it slows production as we grow older, which is why we get so many of those "aches and pains" and makes us cranky like old man Weaver! haha
Hope that helps! (A few squeezin' dont hurt none either, long as it's for them special occasions!)

I am very interested in what your saying MDC. Guess I'll have to give it a look see. I would be a happy camper if I could find something to ease the misery in my back and allow me to do the things I could used to do.
Watched Barney on his first date with Thel tonight. I always crack up when the four of them are sitting in Ellie's living room and the lights go out and when they go back on a minute later Barney is sitting next to Andy and Ellie. What a hoot. Who was more nervous on his first date, Barney with Thel or Goober with Lydia?

July 01, 2004 - Msg 21993: Great to hear from you pipeman! Hope you get to feeling stronger soon.

Asa, that episode with Barney and Thelma kills me! I think it has some of the best quotes in any of the episodes. I love it when Thelma says, "If I could only hear it from his own thin lips!" and the part when Barney calls the barber shop and says to Floyd, "I want the works! Shave, hair cut, eau de cologne, toilet water....if it smells, I want it!". What a crack-up! Its a really great episode. I think Ellie Walker was great on the show, I kind of wish she had stayed on it longer. I just loved it when she came on to Barney and she says, " I want you...I want you with your hair the way it was yesterday.". What a great episode!

Better go tend to the kids. Have a great day!

Boo

July 01, 2004 - Msg 21995: Hey pipeman - SO GOOD to hear from you. I pray you feel much better real soon.

How about we head over to New Neighbors and fix some ribs and nice thick steaks on the grill for the 4th? All kinds of salads and slaw, baked beans, corn on the cob, a trough full of cold beverages and watermelon. Sounds like the good old days! Asa - maybe you can shoot us off some fireworks!

I loved last nights episode too. "You want pie, Barney?", "You want cheese with your pie?", "You want cream and sugar in your coffee?" - I always get a big kick out of that scene.

MDC - hope you get some rain in your area soon.

Over at TVLand.com, you can cast your vote for the top ten Andy Griffith episodes for a show to be shown on July 21st. (Kind of like the Top Ten TV Dads episode aired a couple of weeks ago)
Andy Griffith is also going to be on one episode in the Flip Wilson marathon this weekend. It's supposed to air on July 3 at 5:30 central.

Have a great Mayberry kinda day everybody!

Asa, sara, hope that stuff helps you, it sure has me. The hylauronic acid is available at places like HiHealth. What I like is the fact that it is nothing more that what the body produces anyway, and this just helps as we get older. My musclea and joints are 50 times less sore. (And I get no kickback for saying that!) haha
Andy: Op, did you take a bath this morning?
Opie: Why, is there one missin'?

Down to my Bro's (how's that for sounding hip of course simply by using the word hip I once again prove I'm not) house again. Thought I'd drop by quick I'm itching to get back. Love the quote above. Here's one of my favorites, with all that's going on these days it still rings true maybe now more than ever. OOPS, fell off my soap box, any who it is a good quote for the holiday I think.

"I've spoken of the shining city all my political life…. And how stands the city on this winter night? … After 200 years, two centuries, she still stands strong and true to the granite ridge, and her glow has held no matter what storm. And she's still a beacon, still a magnet for all who must have freedom, for all the pilgrims from all the lost places who are hurtling through the darkness, toward home." - Ronald Reagan's Farewell address 1989.

Have a good 4th good friends.

July 02, 2004 - Msg 22007: Mornin' porchsters! GREAT quotes and sentiments.
As I once heard, "the slippery slope is just one step away." Let's hope and pray that we never take that step, tho some can argue that we already have. I'm an optimist, so I say, even if a few have, we, the majority, must continue to pray for this land, so that those few will see the error of their ways, and the land will be healed. (Ok, I'm puttin the soap box back under the bed.) As you all know, having rels in the military as I do, holidays like this one sort of brings it all out for me!
Good to see pipeman and AUh2o again.
Many on vacation, but as the p-man said, we'll keep those rockers dusted off for them upon their return. I have a very busy weekend starting with neighbors coming over tonight. Hope to visit at least a few times over the next few days.
Thanks for all your friendships. Still hope we can all meet one day.

July 02, 2004 - Msg 22017: # 22013, your question about the 2 names given for Clara (Edwards and Johnson) is just one of the many inconsistancies of The Andy Griffith Show! And yes, in that early episode, Aunt Bee called her "Bertha". Oh well, it's still our favorite show.

Just got the house clean and the porch swept. Come on over early in the mornin'. We'll have our own Sabbath Service. -- Thanks to our forefathers for their sacrifices in making this country FREE! May we never forget where we came from... We can watch the fireworks over the Antietam and Gettysburg Battlefields. Ed Sawyer, I was thinking that since you are in Las Vegas, you don't need to fire up the grill to fix those steaks. Why don't you just lay them out on the concrete around the pool? I'm sure they will cook there in a hurry....and on that note, don't forget your sunscreen, friend.

Sorry I got ya all shook up MD. I wasn't trying to be mean just ornery! By the way, I never partake of the Mulberry squeezins (hic).

Glad you are home safe and sound, homemaker and I am glad you liked Texas (in spite of the Super Nasty 8 motel). I don't know if I have ever been to Kilgore, its a long way from where I live. I have done alot of traveling all over the state, though so I have probably been there at least once.

Hope everyone had a nice 4th of July! We took our daughter down to the town parade today, and taught her to salute when the military guys went by. Cute.
But she said the favorite part of the parade was when she waved to a person in a big yellow bee costume. "My favorite was when I waved to the happy Bee!" She said.

July 05, 2004 - Msg 22043: We went to the 4th of July parade yesterday - it is a real cute parade, hundreds of kids in wagons, bikes, little atv's, dad's driving lawn tractors with a wagon of kids behind - everyone decked out in red white and blue. Real Mayberry like - a couple of bands and some cheerleaders too!
The American Legion gave out flags to everyone and the local funeral home did too. And there was free popcorn and free bottled water and one business gave away cups of peaches and ice cream.

Then - after the parade on the courthouse lawn - a bluegrass band (Skinny Lynard) put on a free performance. Pretty much fun!

Take care everyone!
