June 18, 2004 - Msg 21836: Wow Sterling, you swept the porch. Good job.
Praise God for all the miracles. The power of prayer is shining thru. Please pray for the family of that worker who was killed today.
So tragic and frustrating, I just feel so many emotions. Lord help this world!
I wonder if anyone ever thought of building an amusement park over there. They need to experience some basic fun! I know that is oversimplistic, but it has to start somewhere to subst-tute for all the hate. Ok, I'm putting my soapbox away.
Hope you all have a weekend of rest.
Saw the ep last night about the gossipping men. It is one used in Sunday schools and Bible studies. Love Aunt Bea's line:
"Well, according to you, Andy, the Lord made 2
s-xes, men and blabbermouths!"
Of course, in the end, it's the men who spread the story! Great ep.
Good to see you all. Let's meet at spot's for dinner!

June 18, 2004 - Msg 21837: Hey MDC, You just mentioned one of my favorite eps. I do love that one. I think it's cause Emma Brand is in it. I just loved her. To bad she wasn't in more episodes. She was a hoot. I just love her line in an earlier ep when she tells Andy "bad baddd sheriff". Or when calls Barney "naughty deputy". That's what we call our Barney when he gets into trouble, which by the way is most of the time. That pup is a wild little feller. He has got the house tore apart half the time. Loves ice cubes of all things. He'll chew on an ice cube all day if allowed.
Sad sad deal going on over in the middle east. My prayers go out to the families of both victims. What is happening to our world?

Asa

June 18, 2004 - Msg 21838: MDC, I finally show up and Sterling decides to tidy up and sweep the porch! Did you get the ship in a bottle I brought you? (See Msg 21827.) Asa, I love those Emma quotes too. She's a funny one. We've got kittens out our ears again. Last year I got all but two of the cats fixed. Well, that was two too many not to get fixed. Now we have kittens again. There's a roving Tom I'd like to have done in! Anyway, running ads to give the little cuties away. Please pray for good homes for these kittens and for me to hurry up and get my other two Moms fixed! I don't want to be an irresponsible pet owner!

Did anyone miss me? My computer was giving me fits, then that was fixed and my son came home from Korea for 2 weeks, then he and his lady decided to get married befor he went away we had less than 24hrs to get ready for the wedding, it was beautiful, they married on the 10th and he shipped out on the 12th, they well see each other again in 14months. He has called a few times. Today is work day at church so I've got to get my hubby up so we can get on our way. Happy anv to the 28 yrs. God bless you both with many more. Have a great day porch talk at ya later.

Oh Paw can't I just look at the pretty man.

June 19, 2004 - Msg 21847: Hey, Ellen Brown! You bet we missed you. Glad to hear you're okay, and glad your 'puter was fixed. Happy news about your son getting married and all, I know his bride will be glad when he gets back home. I know a bit about that myself. My dear husband was sent to Korea when we had been married only six months, and I was four months along with our oldest son. (Sorry, Mrs. Pendleton, no scandal there.) He was gone for a year, and I only got to talk to him once while he was gone, but we wrote every day. We maintained what he called our FIGMO chart. That's Finally I Got My Orders. He marked a sheet of paper off into 365 squares, with the date in the corner of each square. He marked off all the dates that had already gone by when he started the thing, and mailed it to me. I would then mark off the elapsed time when it arrived, and mail it back to him. With the mail being what it was, sometimes we'd get to mark off a lot of days, always at least a week. That piece of paper was pretty dog-eared and taped together by the end of the year, but somehow it did seem to make the time pass a little faster.

I'm watching three bluejays just devour the shelled peanuts I just put outside. They swallow them whole! I don't see how they do it, but they do. I've learned a lot of trivia facts about local wildlife, sitting here by this window. Fascinating!

It's cloudy, looks like we could get some rain here on the Dallas porch. Rain is always welcome around here. Well, almost always.

Off I go, Rob is here, and we have places to go and things to do. Have a great weekend, everyone. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

Not been around much lately, been working on some genealogy. May have found the link back to my 5th great grandfather. We'd only had info back to my 2nd great. Relatives from Bedford Co. VA. through KY, IN, IL, NE, then to KS where we ended up. It's so exciting to see the pieces coming together!

I am troubled over some problems in my little boy's life (besides the ones you already know about). I would certainly appreciate your continued prayers for Sean. He has so much to deal with. I know God has a plan for his life and it is to bless him even in these difficult circumstances. It just seems like everytime we turn around it is something else to deal with. We are thankful that he is physically well but the emotional and psychological problems are sometimes almost overwhelming. I will spare you all the details, I just know you all care and I need a little extra support right now.

My annv started with a big breakfast.
Now just kinda lazin' around. Spot, get those floodlights turned on the backyard, we'll be by for brisket and then we'll see if we still can do the twist! Get out the hulahoops!
Bring your best spouse (teehee)and put on your best jeans or other duds, and someone bring the slaw. Pipeman bring the squeezins.
Ellen, we did an APB for you and others earlier.
Glad to see that Barn's dragnet pulled ya back to us.
OK, let's all warm up with a few bars of "My Mule's Run Away." Maybe that guy with the tape recorder will get us a big contract!
Ya all take care. A one-a and a two-a...

June 19, 2004 - Msg 21854: MDC, I did indeed keep that paper, and it's neat to look at it now and then. You can see his entries and mine, as the ink changes. We just blacked in the squares each time, so there's a lot of ink! Memories.....

Boo, you know I'll be praying for Sean. I just felt a special bond with that child, and found him to be such a sweetheart. Whatever his difficulties are, I pray the Lord will lift them and let him just be a happy-go-lucky little boy.

Ratticus and family are alive and well in my back yard, but I've about decided they're little woodrats, and no threat to my household, so I'll leave them alone. If another Catticus comes along and thins the ranks, so be it, that's nature's way. They've probably been out there all along, I just didn't know it until I started supplying groceries to the wild things, and sitting here watching their antics.

Everyone have a lovely, peaceful, blessed Sabbath tomorrow. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

What a gift to have that strong and blessed presence in our lives! I hope you're all having a special day. This would have been my Dad's birthday. We lost him to Alzheimer's three years ago, and he's "sitting right on my shoulder" today. Romeena, I'll bet that treasured paper brings a smile to your face every time you touch it! We've had a pretty quiet day--my husband decided he wanted to go out for Chinese food for lunch, so we drove over to a town about 17 miles away--the five of us and my Mom. Then we came home and he decided he'd have a nap, so he's been snoozing the afternoon away. I figured a good present would be to just let the poor fella alone while I kept the kids busy! I'd better go and get some supper fixed. That ham and tater salad sounds awfully good! God bless!

June 20, 2004 - Msg 21864: Happy Fathers Day to all our Mayberry Men!

What makes a Dad

God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The Joy of a morning in Spring,
The Faith of a mustard seed,
The patients of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so He called it...
Dad.

June 21, 2004 - Msg 21869:

something my sister-in-law sent me, it is cute..
Thanks for the chow Spot. My son just left Ga. in December, he went to Korea, now on his way to Iraq. I like the smaller towns in Ga. like Covington and Rome etc.

After 17 years of marriage, a man dumped his wife for his young secretary. His new girlfriend demanded that she wanted to live in the couple's multi-million dollar home, and since the man's lawyers were a little better, he prevailed.

He gave his now ex-wife just 3 days to move out.

She spent the first day packing her belongings into boxes, crates and suitcases.

On the second day, she had the movers come and collect her things.

On the third day, she sat down for the last time at their beautiful dining-room table by candlelight, put on some soft background music, and feasted on a pound of shrimp, a jar of caviar, and a bottle of Chardonnay.

When she had finished, she went into each and every room and deposited a few half-eaten shrimp shells, dipped in caviar, into the hollow of the curtain-rods. She then cleaned up the kitchen and left.

When the husband returned with his new girlfriend, all was bliss for the first few days. Then slowly, the house began to smell. They tried everything; cleaning & mopping and airing the place out. Vents were checked for dead rodents, and carpets were steam cleaned. Air- fresheners were hung everywhere.

Exterminators were brought in to set off gas canisters, during which they had to move out for a few days, and in the end they even paid to replace the expensive wool carpeting.

Nothing worked. People stopped coming over to visit...Repairmen refused to work in the house...The maid quit...Finally, they could not take the stench any longer and decided to move.

A month later, even though they had cut their price in half, they could not find a buyer for their stinky house. Word got out, and eventually, even the local realtors refused to return their calls.

Finally, they had to borrow a huge sum of money from the bank to purchase a new place.

The ex-wife called the man, and asked how things were going. He told her the saga of the rotting house. She listened politely, and said that she missed her old home terribly, and would be willing to reduce her divorce settlement in exchange for getting the house back...

Knowing his ex-wife had no idea how bad the smell was, he agreed on price that was about 1/10th of what the house had been worth...But only if she were to sign the papers that very day. She agreed, and within the hour, his lawyers delivered the paperwork.

A week later, the man and his new girlfriend stood smirking as they watched the moving company pack everything to take to their new home...

...including the curtain rods.

Have a great day all

Asa, that was a good one by Jay Leno! The Tigers have already won more games this year than they did ALL of last year! Can you imagine that!? So they are definitely playing better. As for the Lions...we'll see!

Loved the story by Ellen Brown!

Happy Belated Father's Day to all you wonderful Dads out there. It seems in the culture we live in today, a lot of movies and television shows depict fathers as morons or unneeded baggage in society today. I just want to encourage all you dads, the most important job you have is that of father, and thank God for every one of you! You're the tops!

Have a great Mayberry kind of day!

MW, thanks for your nice thoughts.
Saw "Barney gets His Man" last night about the crim that escapes after Barney gets him.
One of my most favorite, tender scenes is when Thelma Lou fears for barney's life and tries to get him to leave town. You can see her anguish!
In all the other eps I dont recall such a moment with Thel and Barn except at the end of the cave rescue. Now that is must see TV!!
Spot, the grub was tasty again as usual.
I'm grillin brats tonight if anyone's interested.
kraut, sliced tomatoes, all the fixin's, chips,

Thanks for the rolls CT. Ever have a warm cinnabun? Mmm-mmm good!

June 22, 2004 - Msg 21889: Evenin' porchster. Just home from watchin' my son play two great games of basketball. He just seems to be maturing and improving all the time. Purty proud of that boy. My daughter is at a basketball camp this week too. She did well at the camp among the girls there last year but then they only had one set of awards for both boys and girls. That was pretty disappointing for her. This year we told her to just go up there planning on beating those boys! Don't know if she will but she's giving it a good shot. Personally, if they are going to invite both I feel they should give awards for both, but maybe that's women's lib I don't know. Many prayers for your surgeon and you, Mrs. Wiley. Hey to spot, MCD, Mary Wiggins, Ellen Brown, Asa, Sara, Sterling, Ro. Where's pipeman and goober? No Mavis or Salty lately either. Hazel, how's yer reunion goin? She's a great kid, but sometimes we think this one just might do us in! She goes from filling us with joy one minute to making us rip our hair out the next! We're awfully thankful to have all three of them, though. Beautiful weather in southern MN today. My tomato plants are getting huge and are just starting to blossom. The mosquitoes are terrible. My son wanted to know why God created them. I told him I thought it might be to make us thankful for the times of the year when they're not around! He asks a lot of very Opie-like questions. My challenge is to come up with enough Andy-like answers. Have a lovely Thursday, everybody! God's blessings to all.

June 24, 2004 - Msg 21908: last night at choir practice, judy suggested a staple gun also.....after the choir director said that the decorations looked great but the end flags are falling down....i told judy after her suggestion about the staples, that the director said we werent allowed to put any holes anywhere....she said it wont show on top of the light boxes where the tape originally was on top of the flags, we are going to be sneaky and use some nails with the hammer, very gently....i think i will feel better if i tell the director about our plans....im prepared for her to say no, so im bringing some long ,wide clear tape to put up there also.....i know this sounds kind of crazy but i take these volunteer decorating jobs seriously....judy is in charge of the table decor and her assistant brought in some stuff that had cat urine on them ,needless to say everyone could smell that stuff for miles, even after i got home i could still smell it in my nose the rest of the night.......she took them home and poured bleach on them in her bathtub....there were plastic flags with a shiny red garland for the tabltetop designs....judy wants mason jars with sand inside to put little flags in with helium red ,white and blue balloons....we are filling them on saturday morning....it will take a lot of volunteers but we plan on filling 142 of them.....we will give them away to kids and anyone else that wants them .......whew....im bushed just talkin about it.....she brought the cat stuff last night ,and the bleach did the trick no more smelly cat.....ha ,ha,....no, i do not make band uniforms, but if i had a pattern i might try it....i always loved the movies where they put on a show, like mickey and judy did, it is in my nature to do things like that.....the teachers always gave me extra credit for decorating their classrooms,if you got it flaunt it.....bye,bye for now ,love sara

June 24, 2004 - Msg 21912: I love that episode too, Ed Sawyer! It's the most twilight-zone-esque of the TAGS episodes, at least at first. Plus I like the premise of it.

Had some violent weather here on the midwest section of the porch. Even had a tornado touch down about 7 miles from here. Luckily no one was hurt in that one. Unfortunately someone did get killed by another tornado in another part of the state.
I almost knew something was going to happen just because it was too perfect of a day yesterday. The sun was out for most of the day, the temperature was warm but not hot, and winds were calm although there was still a nice breeze. Then it changed in like an hour, and before long we were heading down to the basement as the sirens went off. Then it was over almost as quickly as it came, and the sun came back out. Talk about twilight zone-esque?!

Hope everyone is safe wherever you are!

June 24, 2004 - Msg 21913: Good afternoon, everyone! Blessings upon all you parents of teenagers. I loved every minute of it, but wouldn't do it again for all the tea in China! At my age, the Plum is all the responsibility and challenge I want.

Welcome back, AuH20). We've missed you. You always have something thoughtful and upbeat to say.

Prayers and good wishes for all our friends with health problems, family challenges, all those things that put bumps in our road. Remember, this too shall pass.

The Plum and I leave early in the morning for Florida, will be out there until July 5. I may be able to drop by the Florida porch and visit a spell, not sure. I'm going to be introduced to my new computer while there, take it for a test drive, etc., and then it will be shipped, timed to arrive in Texas a day or so after I do. It will have all the data and settings from this old one, and some new programs and plug-ins as well. That takes care of the worst part of replacing a computer - transferring everything.

Well, got a zillion things to do, plus the Plum has to get a bath and be made beeyootiful for the trip. Sure do wish Mavis could do her, but she's on a pretty far end of the porch from us, so guess I'll do it myself. Good thing she's patient with me.

Have a great weekend, friends. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

June 24, 2004 - Msg 21914: Good Evening Porch!

Well, Spot says y'all started at the same time with your 13 year olds. I guess I started and stopped and started again! I have a 22, 20 and 6 year old! The 20 year old went down to Detroit to see the fireworks last night. They always put on a grand show, but this year some ignoramus got into an argument with some other ignoramus and of course one decided to start shooting into the crowd. Pure Nitwit. My son was about 100 yards away, and thankfully he didn't get hurt. I guess 9 people were shot, one critically, but no one has died. It just makes me sooo mad that some people could care less about the misery they bring to others. The 9 people who were shot were all innocent by-standers and the shooter and the person he was arguing with got away and haven't been caught yet.

Romeena, I hope you like your new computer! How nice that someone is helping you transfer all the settings, etc. Sure sounds like you have great family!

Hey Sara, I can't understand someone who would bring decorations in that condition! I have gone to a few tag sales (not TAGS sales!) and I am surprised at what some people try to sell at them! (Dirty smelly clothes, etc.)

Hey Ed, did that barbecue place close? It's a shame if it did. Maybe someone else will open one up and do it right!

I will be praying for you Mrs. Wiley. May all go well for you, and we look forward to hearing from you again real soon...

Good to hear from you again AuH20!

I best be getting up out of this here rocker and get a few things done.

Wishing you all a wonderful sunset, Mayberry Style...

June 25, 2004 - Msg 21916: Sterling, glad ya'll survived that tornado weather. Mary Wiggins, that is an awful story about the Dee-troit fireworks. Glad your son was not injured. Some people just got no sense--no sense t'all! Picked up my son from bball camp yesterday. He was in many of the finals of the different compet-i-tions and won the hot shots compet-i-tion. He didn't make the all-star team though which was very disappointing since he was only one of two of our guys who got into the finals. The other one and another guy who wasn't in any of the compet-i-tions got on it. Go figure. His dad was mighty disappointed, but we still know he's a great player. Today my little girl goes up against all those boys in her camp. I really doubt she'll get any awards and I KNOW she'll be majorly disappointed and she doesn't hide it well. Say a prayer for her. Ya'll have a great day. I'm off to weed!

June 25, 2004 - Msg 21921: Hello all!

How are you? I'm great! I'm back from Nashville. The Mayberry weekend was the best thing I have ever done!! It started with the Aunt Bee(chicken and Mashed taters) dinner on Friday Night. I sat next to the guy that impersonates Briscoe Darling! What a stroke of luck for me. He was dressed in charater. There was an Howard Spreague, Barney Fife, Earnest T. Bass, Otis Campbell, Aunt Bee and Floyd the barber(Alan Newsome).

There was a show after dinner. With Betty Lynn(Thelma Lou), Elinore Donahue(Miss Ellie), Don Knotts(Barney Fife), Howard Morris(Earnest T. Bass) George Lindsay(Goober) and Maggie Petterson(Charlene Darling) and the Dillards(The Boys). They all talked about how wonderful the Andy Griffith Show was. They showed scenes from the show. They did the Barney sings skit. Where Barney thinks he is singing with the chior but, really isn't.

The next day the all signed my Mayberry Book I have. I got pictures with Goober, Earnest T. Bass, Barney Fife and Thelma Lou(she held on to me and kissed me). I told her," I won't wash for a week!" They are all wonderful people! And I love each and everyone. The Opryland Hotel isn't bad either. The package included tickets to the Grand Old Opry. That was fun too. The Andy Griffith Show cast was introduced. It was great! What a great weekend for me!

Love,

Briscoe Darling Jr.

P.S. I never told you because, I wanted to surprise you! :-)

June 25, 2004 - Msg 21927: I just finished feeding the kids and cleaning the kitchen. Man, I wish I could escape to Mayberry! I am so tired and the kids just never seem to get tired. I have had my friend Paul's foster son with me all week so he could go to VBS and he and my son tend to fight over what to do, what to watch on TV, etc....anyway, it is ALWAYS something. I can just imagine what it would be like to be taking a walk in Mayberry in the cool of the evening and strolling up to the drugstore for a soda pop, then maybe drop in on Andy at home just to sit and visit. Maybe he would play his guitar and we could sing. Doesn't that just sound real fine? Then, later in the evening, the Darlin's would drop by and sing, "There is a time for us to wander.....". Then Aunt Bee would serve her apple pie and coffee and we would just sit on the porch and listen to the crickets.....and hopefully....at some point.....someone.....would tell the story of The Golden Arm!

Hope ya'll have a real special evening,
