I think they've got a compelsion of some sort. We've got a real situation here! In Mayberry! How have you been Mavis? We've missed you! How's the puppy bidness?
- Hazel

April 10, 2004 - Msg 20708: Puppy bidness is busy, busy, busy~lots of dirty puppies out there ya know. On a sadder note, my uncle passed away on Tues. & the family is just a mess. My mother, uncle and aunt that live here flew out tues to try to see him & he passed away while they were on the plane. Needless to say it has been a really hard week on everyone. My sister and I are running both businesses until she gets back & it is wearing us out, but being with her siblings is more important so we told her to stay as long as she needed to stay. Please keep my family in your prayers, everyone is having a really hard time dealing with his death, we knew it was coming, just thought we had more time, Dr. gave him 3-6 months just a week ago.
I'm off to the ironing board, my tired body is yelling for some sleep. If anyone emails me or asks about me, please don't get upset or worried, it's not that I don't want to answer, just trying to find more time in the day is my problem. Glad to know I'm still in Mayberry though, must be the fallout, it's affecting the milk you know.

FRANKIE FLINT

April 11, 2004 - Msg 20712: Good evening, folks! Wow! I leave for a week or so and all these interlopers come in. Or perhaps it's just one interloper. Near as I can tell, most of these posts are by the same person, using at least two computers. Can't help but feel sorry for someone who has to entertain themselves like that. Surely there would be something better they could do with their time. Mary/Marcia/Rosie/Tim/Whoever, this porch is open to anyone who can behave themselves and be open about themselves. This is our own little Mayberry, and if you can act like somebody and show that you have a little smart, you're welcome here. Otherwise, just move on down the road, because we have no use for you. I suspect that you're probably a teenager, maybe two teenagers, and when you're not bugging us, you're probably calling the zoo and asking to speak to Mr. Fox. Yes, I did that when I was thirteen. Grow up. As for your criticism of our own dear Tom, you pick on that young man and you're walking on our fightin' side. We love him here, and appreciate his poetry, and it's mean-spirited and tacky of you to say what you said. All things considered, it appears that it would be better if you just take your visits to a teenage chatroom and join the "fun" there.

I'm back from my week in Michigan with my husband's family, and I had a lovely time. They're good people, and made me feel so welcome. I haven't read all the archives yet, but am working on it. Just glad to be home, sure did miss everyone, and especially my little Plum. She was very glad to see me, and of course, I was delighted to see her. More later. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

Sorry you felt left out. I think everyone has been busy lately, and also since we've had some interlopers on the porch, attendance here has been WAY down. I saw that color ep last night too. Funny, I used to not like that one, but laughed out loud watching it last night. Those kids dancing, doing the "frog" or the "swim", or whatever it was. Then Andy trying it. Those color eps are beginnig to get to me. It used to be that there was only a couple I liked; and now there's only a couple I don't like! Happy Easter to all!

Hey SRM, don't want you feeling like that. Your always welcome here. Sorry if you felt we had froze ya.
Mrs Wiley, the 14? Thats wonderful news. Cause unlike Hazel I find myself turning off the color eps. I used to like them some till TV Land started making them to regular like. I cannot wait for the DVD'S to come out. That will be great.
I hope and pray you all have a wonderful Easter day and have time to reflect on Who made everything possible. I sat on my porch this morning and watched the sun come up over the Wasatch mountains to my east and pondered it all for a while. Hard to imagine that kind of love.

April 11, 2004 - Msg 20735: Hmmm, seems like we struck a nerve. They just don't get it, do they, folks? Do some of you oldtimers remember when "Tic" and "Yahoo" used to pay us their unwelcome visits and trash up the place? Ignoring them seemed to make more difference than anything else, and they finally went away. These folks will do the same thing. I feel more pity for them than anything else, because they truly just don't get it. Oh, my, if they only knew! They could be so welcome if they'd quit being spiteful and just be nice, and if they'd be quiet long enough to learn what this porch is all about. You'd think they'd know that when you enter a site through "Mayberry.com" that it just might be mostly about the Andy Griffith Show. Big surprise!

Our pastor's sermon this morning was on proving or disproving the resurrection story, and I've never heard the subject dealt with more intelligently or more clearly. It was inspiring, convincing, and convicting, and I'm grateful that I had the opportunity to hear it.

From there I went to my comadre's house (comadre - the mother of my son's wife, and my dear good friend) for dinner and spent the afternoon playing with my two delightful little grandsons. Now I'm going to kick back and cuddle with the Plum, and have a peaceful Sabbath evening. Life is sweet, and God is good. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

April 11, 2004 - Msg 20736: Thanks for the prayers folks, they are truely appreciated. Tom you said a mouthful of truth in that post, this porch is exactly that & we do care for each other, that is what makes it so special. Again folks....ignoring them is by far the best way to get them to leave us alone. They come here just to cause trouble and if they can't...they won't have fun and they'll likely get tired of it and leave.

Just don't let him/her take away your fun and enjoyment of Mayberry.

I am back from my little trip up north in Michigan! (By the way, Romeena, you mean to say you were in Michigan and didn't look me up!? Just kidding, I am sure it was great to see your family!)

We had a wonderful Easter up at my friends. We were able to see a dear friend preach, and we had tons of great food and great fellowship. (I bet it is exactly what all us porchsters would do if we all got together!) My daughter told me it was a quiet Easter for her though, and that made me feel bad again! I did tell her she was welcome to go with us, so I am not TOTALLY a bad mother!

Tom, loved your poem up there!

Oh, and pipeman, pipeman, pipeman, I just wanted to say your name for a few times so I could confirm your theory that you are in our thoughts! ;)

April 12, 2004 - Msg 20756: Howdy, all! This is sorrowful Romeena - this morning I checked at work and it looked like I had an excellent chance of getting cancelled and being able to stay home tonight, and at 5:20 I found out that I have to go in after all. We'll be overstaffed, but one of us is a new hire and she keeps insisting she needs more orientation, so they dou't count her in the total staff. She's not a new nurse, just new to this hospital. Humph! I'd be ashamed to say I needed more orientation after nearly three months. What on earth does she think she still has to learn? (Grumble, grumble.)

Pipeman, I hope you'll always know that you're one of my favorite people, and I look forward to seeing you and the brown truck. I try to avoid listing names, because I know with my memory I'm bound to leave someone out, and I don't want to risk hurting anyone's feelings. So I just say "howdy" to everyone, prayers for all who need 'em, and I ask for a blessing for every member of this porch. You're the finest bunch of folks anywhere, and I'm proud to call you my friends.

Mary Wiggins, I was in Bangor, Michigan, and one day we took a little trip down to Shipshewana in Indiana, but the flea market there hadn't opened yet. No problem, we found lots of fun little shops, and of course that wonderful restaurant there. The name escapes me, but anyone in town can direct you - just ask for the best place to eat, with the wonderful bakery. They serve a raspberry cream pie that is just down on its knees being good, and I just took some extra insulin and ate a piece of it! Wow!

Well, off to work I go. Oh, well, my paycheck will look better. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena
P.S. Thanks, Floyd.

Hey Folks,

We have one messed up computer here at the ranch. I hope this posts all right. I don't dare hit the archives I know it will freeze up.

Well, I make this short and see if it shows up or disappears into the great unknown that is cyber space.

Something's never change we have gotten about 3 inches of snow tonight. I thought spring had sprung.

Pipeman, just a quick note to ya, when I think of this site and all the good folks here that vent and share kind words with each other, it's your name that that comes to mind first. Does Mark Prior's injury have you worried a bit about your Cubbies?

auh2o

April 12, 2004 - Msg 20762: Evening porch.
That's too bad about more snow auh2o. Dang!
Mavis, it is so good to see you back with us dear and here's more prayers coming your way for your family.
Sorry you have to work tonight Ro. Very tough when you thought you had it off.
A.F.D. I agree completely about the Lefty winning the green jacket. I am so happy for him.
Now guess what? I have an uncle who lives in Ventura California and he has two extra tickets for the big NASCAR race at Fontana speedway on May 2nd. And guess who he has invited to go? Yep, all I gotta do is find some cheap airfare to Ontario and we will be there, live and in person. I ain't ever been to any NASCAR events before. Lots of drag racing though. I bet it'll be fun.
Anyhow. I know there are some NASCAR fans here so I thought I would holler and tell ya about it.
Off to bed for me cause I is old and weary.

Wow, it worked.

MDC, I want to echo Hazel's sentiments. Your relative is an inspiration. God bless him and all the troops, as well as, our President. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say they are never far from my thoughts and prays. Sometimes it's really had to believe what a great country we live.

I was at my daughters school play the other day and a little boy, a second grader, sung GOD BLESS AMERICA. Here was this little fella, he probably weighted 45 pounds soaking wet, singing this fantastic song, no music just him on stage in front of old glory. Well, needless to say with all that is going on in the world today the song really made the old eyes get a little moist.

Take some earplugs and don't get stuck in the middle of the track ring before racetime. (there aren't any restrooms there) Stay away from the fence and WATCH FOR WRECKAGE! Be ready to RUN!! Oh, and keep those wandering eyes to yourself. Yep, you'll be havin' a very large time.

April 13, 2004 - Msg 20776: i am the flag...
I am the flag of the united states of america.
my name is old glory.
i fly atop the world"s tallest buildings.
i stand watch in america"s halls of justice.
i fly majestically over insti of learning.
i stand guard with power in the world.
look up and see me.
i stand for peace, horo, truth and justice.
i stand for freedom.
i am confident.
i am arrogant.
i am proud.
when i am flown with my fellow banners.
my head is a little higher, my colors a little truer.
i bow to no one!
i am recoginized all over the world.
i am worshipped i am saluted.
i am respected and i am feared.
i have fought in every battle of every war
for more than 200 years.
i was flown at valley forge, gettysburg,
shiloh and appomattox.
i was there at san juan hill,
the trenches of france,
in the argonne forest, anzio, rome
and the beaches of normandy, guam.
okinawa, korea and khesan, saigon, vietnam know me,
i was there.
i led my troops,
i was dirty, batt-tested and tired,
but my soldiers cheered me
and i was proud.
america has been attacked by cowardly fanatics
and many lives have been lost
but those who would destroy me cannot win
for i am the symbol of freedom,
of one nation
under god
indivisible
with liberty and justice for all.
i have been burned ton and trampled
on the streets of countries i have helped set free.
it does not hurt, for i am invincible.
i have been soiled upon, burned, torn
and trampled on the streets of my country,
and when it"s by those whom i"ve served in battle it hurts.
but i shall overcome for i am strog.
i have slipped the bonds of earth

and stood watch over the uncharted frontiers of space
from my vantage point on the moon.
i have borne silent witnss
to all of america"s finest hours.
but my finest hours are yet to come.
when i am torn into stips and used as bandages
for my wounded comrades on the battlefield,
when i am flown at half mast to honor my soldier,
or when i lie in the trembling arms
of a grieving parent
at the grave of their fallen son or daughter,
i am proud.
MY NAME IS OLD GLORY

Finally had a chance to read the archives sorry I missed the Big Freeze on the interlopers. His/her's posts reminded me of the old adage, it is far better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than it is to open it and remove all doubt.

April 13, 2004 - Msg 20783: Good afternoon, folks! Tom, thank you. That poem was perfectly lovely, and called up so many emotions, it's hard to express them all. I won't try, but will follow just one thread. Let it be said that I'm so proud and grateful to be an American. For most of us, it was our birth that made us Americans, and we had no control over that, but it is the conscious efforts of our young men and women that allow us to continue in that status.
It's pretty remarkable, when you stop to realize that our military is strictly all volunteer. We have had no draft for many years, and no one is forced to participate in the military against their will. Our troops are where they are because at some point they made a conscious decision to join the military, presumably knowing full well what it could mean. There are even some who didn't join until there was a challenge to be met. MDC, I know you're proud of your family members, and you should be. I have a nephew who rejoined the military last year, leaving a very lucrative job, and is now in the Middle East somewhere. He said he "knew he was needed." This kind of zeal and conviction is hard to defeat.

That's why this is going to be a difficult war for us to win, because we are facing an enemy who thinks he is on a mission for his god. Whether we want to admit it or not, this is a kind of religious war we are in. We are fighting an enemy whose goal is to destroy those who do not believe as they do, and who believe they will be rewarded by their god for doing so. We, on the other hand, serve a God who would have us offer Him to them in love, and make willing disciples. He would have us fight to liberate those who are being persecuted and mistreated and murdered by the servants of that other "god", and in so doing, we ensure that the poison of that religious system does not eventually envelop us as well.

Well, that's the way I see it. I'm proud of those who serve, and grateful to them, and will forever support them.

Sugarplum (who is also proud to be an American) says hey! --Romeena
