Ok here is a great recipe I found in one of my cookbooks, it's quick & easy & tastes good to boot.
"Big Orange" Pork Chops
Arrange 4-6 pork chops in 9 X 13 greased pan. Mix: 1/2 cup of orange juice
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp. dry mustard
1/4 tsp. pepper in bowl until sugar is dissolved.
Pour over pork chops & bake on 350* 45 minutes, basting occasionally.
They are WONDERFUL! & I don't like pork chops.
The "big orange" of course is for University of Tennessee, being as how I am from TN. (heehee)

Howdy. I have been TOO busy, lately but finally had a chance to read up and sit on the porch for a little while. Hope you are all well tonight.
I wanted to tell Rob that I will be sure and visit McDonald's when I am in Fredricksburg and prayers for the house situation.
I would like to ask your prayers for a freind, please. A dr I used to work with and who delivered my son, has inoperable brain cancer. He is a wonderful fellow and is a young husband and father. His name is Russell and he is a real credit to the Human race. Ro, he is one of the "good ones"--not a bit of ego in him, and has a kind, gentle spirit.
Mavis, when you were talking about dressing your Chihuahua in a Mexican outfit I thought of an episode of Leave It To Beaver that was so cute. Do ya'll remember the one when Beaver brings home a lost Chihuahua hidden in his coat and he and Wally are upstairs in their room looking at the dog. Wally says, "He looks like one of those Mexican Hairless dogs" and Beaver replies, "Well, I don't know if he's a Mexican but he is hairless.". Later afer their parents discover the dog and are questioning Beaver about it, June asks, "I wonder what kind of dog he is?" and Beaver says, "Wally says he's a bald-headed Mexican". LOL I love that show!
Well, I am getting pretty sleep so I will say goodnight and sweet dreams!

Last night Beaver wanted this awful Eskimo sweater--so bad that he spent his own $13 for it. Then that nasty Judy girl got the same sweater and he wouldn't wear his. He went to the movies and stuffed it behind a candy machine! It was a cute show. I need prayers--pray for me to get my writing assignments done and quit playing around outdoors in the beautiful weather! Hope the weather's as nice on your porches as it is on mine!

Good afternoon, everyone! fun girl, thanks for helping Spot out. The Plum will be nine at Christmas, and I can hardly believe it. She surely doesn't act her age. Our den is one of the "sunken" kind so popular in the '70's, so there are step-ups. She always launches herself from about five or six feet back from the step, sails through the air like a little gazelle, and lands like a feather in the next room. I don't think she has a clue that she's supposed to be middle-aged. She is opinionated and stubborn, and loving, affectionate, joyful and playful, and is my precious little companion. She has seen me through good times and bad, through thick and thin, and always knows the right moment to play the clown. The folks here on the porch have taken her to their hearts, and always are so sweet to help me enjoy her. Thanks, friends!

Hey, everybody! Been mighty busy the last couple of days, getting ready for a trip to Florida. The Plum and I leave early in the morning, will be out there about ten days. We're flying, of course, but don't worry about the Plum. She goes in her little duffle-bag style carrier, and right into the cabin with me. Rides on the floor between my feet, just curls up next to my foot and goes to sleep. The carrier has mesh sides, so she has plenty of air, and doesn't seem to mind the trip at all. In fact, when I put her carrier on the floor a while ago, she put two of her toys inside it, apparently now considers herself "packed" for the trip. She's a caution, that little furkid.
Mavis, I know exactly what you mean about Laci's "huffing and puffing". I love when babies do that, you just know they're all excited to be getting your attention, and are trying so hard to respond. So sweet. That little angel is certainly an answer to porch prayers.

I hope Trevor is OK FunGirl. I think sometimes them head injuries can mess you up for a while so hopefully he is just dealing with some headaches and stuff, nothing serious I hope.
Well gots to get to work. It's Friday though and that makes me grin.
Prayers and hugs to you all.

Morning Porch Friends,
Sure have had beautiful weather this week, but I think it's supposed to get nasty--cooler at least. My grandma is not well and I need to go sit with her today. She is 86 and miserable with stomach pain. Please pray for her today. Spot, thanks for the Remshaw advice. It appears that I found it just before you posted your message! Thanks anyway. Homemaker, we have Menards here too! My husband loves that store. Boo, hope your younguns is better. What is Plum dressing up as for Halloween? Ro, I'm sending you and Mavis a cute email of dog halloween costumes I got this morning. Had parent teacher conferences last night and got great accolades on our kids' behavior. Made mama and daddy real proud. Glad they act better at school than they do at home!

Wow, I've been pretty busy. Baby girl was only sick for a day (thanks for your concern) but now my dad is sick. (reckon I need an incant for sick family members??) I had to take him to the ER night before last with chest pain and shortness of breath. It wasn't a heart attack and tests didn't show anything but he is still very weak (he has had some heart failure in the past and has artificial heart valve) anyway, we have to be careful with him because of his health problems (he also has asbestos in his lungs!). I think I will be taking him back to the dr on Monday because he is still very weak and out of breath. He wouldn't let me take him to the doc today. Hard-headed!
Ro, when you were talking about your little Sugarplum being with you through good times and bad I remembered something. Several years ago when my Father-in-law passed away, my mom-in-law (Ann) had a sweet little weinie dog. Well, the night Dad died, there were alot of visitors and relatives at the house and when Ann came home from the funeral home she went to her bed to lie down. When I went to check on her it was dark in the room and she was crying so I slipped into bed next to her and snuggled up next to her back. Before long I felt a warm, wet tongue sneak up and kiss me on the nose. Her dog had been lying right next to her back and I never even saw her. I thought that was so sweet. I'm sure the little dog was a big comfort to her during her grief. Ann is now married to a wonderful Christian man (since last January) and is very happy.
Well, I have talked enough--better give someone else a chance!
Have a great day!

Afternoon Porch,
I hope the sunSPOTS aren't affecting anyone today! (Sorry Spot, I couldn't resist!)
It's real pretty on my end of the porch today. But it is a might cool. I think in the next couple days we are going to have a real good chance of getting some snow! It won't stick or anything, but still...I don't think I am ready for this!!
My little "skinkid" LOL is going to go trick or treating as Simba, the lion from the Lion King. He is 6 years old now, and his friends are going out as vampires, spiderman, or other not so "cutesy" things. Do you think this could damage his frail "masculine ident-ity"?! I just hate how fast they have to grow up. I used to have so much fun with my older children, and now they are much too old for trick or treating, so it is fun with the little guy, but, alas...life is a vapor...
Well, here's wishing Romeena and Sugarplum a safe trip, Boo's father and the rest of her family divine health, Charlotte and her grandmother a beautiful visit together, Possum lot's more cuddlin' time with little Laci, Asa a month of Friday's, so he'll keep smilin', and lot's of God's love and blessings on all our other wonderful friends who lighten our loads and gladden our hearts with their visits to this here porch!

Hey, does anybody know who's gonna be guarding the cannon for Halloween to make sure nobody puts any apples, oranges and candy in there???
October 24, 2003 - Msg 16250:
We usually assign Goober to guarding the cannon but us fellers in the S.T.G.A. (small town guard association) have become concerned by some rather peculiar behaviour by Goober. It seems he thinks his dog can talk. Although we don't want to sound judgmental concerning Goobers antics we simply cannot just look the other way and pretend nothing is going on there. I mean we do have our standards! Therefore we have asked Otis Cambell to be on duty that night. Yes, Otis Cambell. He has agreed to police himself and make us all proud of him.

I am still waiting for things to cool off here in South Texas but no luck, yet. It is supposed to be much cooler by in the morning, though, and we had a wonderful electrical storm earlier. In all my years in Texas I have never seen anything like it here. I saw an amazing display of lightening in Denver once but never like that here until tonight. It was really something to see.
Well, I hear my weinie dog scratching to get in and into her crate (probably still some thunder in the area). You might recall that I had two weinie dogs and one was killed several months ago. The little one who was left grieved for awhile and now seems like the happiest dog in the world. She has gained alot of weight because the other dog used to try to take her food. She is happy being an only-dog, that's for sure.
Better go. Ya'll have a fine evening and great day tomorrow!

No, that wasn't me who tried to make a TAGS jack o'lantern last year that didn't work out, Charlotte, but if I did try it, it probably wouldn't work out anyway.
Well friends, I did my first craft show yesterday to sell my painted rocks and everything went pretty well, aside from the fear that the table would come crashing down as it had a bum leg. I would shoot it and put it out of it's misery but I don't have a gun.
But I sold over half of my socks, which was a lot more than I thought I would. The funny thing was, the ones that sold the most were the ones which I thought were the worst. Anyway, it was a nice first craft show for me and the people who looked at them but didn't buy any rocks paid me with enough compliments to last a long time and made it worth it, so it was a pleasant time.
Hope everyone is doing well and Ro I hope you have a nice time in Florida and please bring back some of that sunshine for me. It's starting to get darker much earlier here.

Spot - got the floors done! My advice, rent a big sander (around 60 bucks with sandpaper for 24 hours) and make sure you have a good shop vac to get all the dust sucked up and do it when all the doors and windows can be open for ventilation. It doesn't look too bad but I think I rushed it just a tad. I should have done it this summer when I was off.
Sterling - I am fascinated by these rocks. Do you have pictures you could send? I am into crafting and the sort and would like to see a new idea.
