Hooooowdy! everyone ready for tomorrow? There will be lots of goblins and niblets about. It was supposed to get nice and cool here tomorrow but the cool front stalled out. Boo Hoo. Hot Halloweens are really gross with all those kids sweatin' in those costumes. It's bad enough to melt yer snickers! I can just hear my son whinin' now about how hot he is in his power ranger costume. When I was a kid, every Halloween we had a neighborhood water balloon fight at the corner Gulf station. It was almost never cold here on Halloween. Maybe I will start the tradition back up for my kids this year. Better go tend to my duties!

That mark Twain quote was pretty darned funny, Romeena. I better start praying now for patience when the kids hit adolescence. At least now I have some control over them. I will have to be very creative to parent them when they are in their teens! Good day!

I wish I'd realized I was typing the 10000th message.I would've said something real important.Let me just say this now: I was born a humble possum,to humble parents... Ha Ha
To quote Ernest T.: " I'm proud".

Well, this calls for a celebration! How 'bout we have a party on the porch this weekend?
Y'all know that the night before Halloween is "Mischief Night" don't ya? Watch out for Asa,lock your backdoors so he can't sneak in and swipe a roll of toilet paper so's he can decorate the trees in Mayberry! Somebody tell Mr. Foley not to sell him any eggs tonight either! Somebody get a posse up to guard the porch-Briscoe and his boys perhaps.Me,I've gotta guard the rock!
Oh,by the way, thanks for the fine breakfast this morning Mary! My eyes must be getting bad-I thought you'd said you had to rustle up some cats! Finally made out the word "eats"! Ha Ha

How about some chicken ala king? That way Asa can get introduced to some gore-met food ;}.... he's already tried moonpies. Now it's time to move up to the next level. Who wants to be in charge of the entertainment? Briscoe? You and the boys are naturals for this. Boo likes to sing ... do you know "Flow Gently Sweet Afton", Boo? It would be perfect for when we present Possum with her award. Gomer, we'll need ya to repair that bandstand for the ceremony, too. Okay, everyone, pitch in now. Part of life on the farm with that youngin' - the boys were playing near the wood pile and his fingers became the meat of a wood sandwich. OUCH OUCH OUCH
I thought maybe he would go as a mummy to trick or treat but he still wants to be a "wampire!" My other son is going to be a policeman with a police dog. I thought that was better than him packin' heat!

Happy Halloween, y'all. Charlotte Tucker, I can't answer your question about why so many of the oldtimers don't visit the porch anymore. It has always been a come-and-go type place where you see the same names for a while and they just fade away as others become regulars. I think the porch serves a very useful purpose but that purpose is different for different people, ya know?

Morning porch. I got an e-mail from Helen yesterday, she said to tell everyone "hey" from her. She must have been at the library with Angefan. She hopes to be posting more soon, as soon as her computer gets fixed. Bless her heart. Everybody ready for Possums surprise party tonight? I tipped over her filing cabinet outside her rock, and she'll be all day long cleaning up that mess. That'll keep her busy, while we get the stuff ready for the party.

I expect to be there for the festivities. I was thinking about bringing some pickles since I ain't sure Aunt Bee will be there!
Looking forward to the whoop-dee-doo tonight!

November 03, 2002 - Msg 10144:
Boy, that's tough. I love so many of them. I adore the one and only Christmas episode because I just love Christmas but the one I probably laughed at the most would be Opie's Charity. The part where Andy is trying to explain to Opie what a ratio is, well, that part is hilarious.
At least I narrowed it down to two! It ws hard not to mention the one where Lydia hates the sun, hates the guitar, hates chit-chat, etc...hehehe.
Good Sunday, all!

My favorite episode jennie would probably be Man in a hurry. A great truth is taught in that episode that we could all stand to slow down a bit and enjoy life, before it's to late.
Does anyone know when Romeena is going in for her operation? Seems like it was in November. Romeena, if you see this let us know when your going in. Hey porchsters, sounds like I missed a hum-dinger of a party the other night. As for my favorite episode....Well, how do you choose. I am especially fond of the one where Andy and Barney fix Gomer up with Mary Grace. (She's nice, real nice.) I think that it shows the true charecter of a man who when he sees that he forgot flowers, goes and gets her some even though she was not what the others considered beautiful on the outside. He saw what was inside and did realize the fact that she was truly nice. And if we are honest with ourselves, we all know, pretty is as pretty does. So I guess that makes our Gomer "pretty" too.

Hey to all of my dear friends on the porch. I hope you all are enjoying a pleasant sabbath. It sure was fun celebratin' with Possum.
Jennie, I have many favorites also, a few that come to mind are the one with Mr. McBeavey, the one that I think is called Opie the Birdman, but it is the one where Opie has to raise some young birds after he kills their mother, and I also like the one where Andy, Ellen, and Barney try to fix that farmer's daughter up with perfume and make-up and her father objects. I don't remember the name of that one. There are so many others, too. I guess I would have to see a list of them to help me recall all of them so I could rightly pick my favorite. Thanks for asking by the way! It makes for interesting reading to see the other's answers!
Well, I think I'll go watch a little telly and then turn in for the evening. You all have a great night!

Sorry to have missed Possum's celebration especially since I went and got everyone to workin on it! I feel kinda bad to leave you all with the work but, I'm glad Possum enjoyed herself so much. I think she deserved it especially after having to clean up such a big filing cabinet mess at her rock.... now I wonder how that happened. I hear she didn't even have time to change her underwear before Hazel wisked her off to the party! And I hear someone's mouth was plum full of sandwiches so that there was no warning hoot as planned! Oh well, seems it all went well... even the meatballs!
Jennie, as for my favorite episode: all the black and whites of course, but I have some color favorites: Aunt Bee takes flying lessons, Aunt Bee starts a Chinese restaurant, Aunt Bee buys a car and learns to drive.... I guess I'm starting to identify with the older crowd and seeing how good it is to still believe we can do whatever we set our minds to doing. I guess I just like seeing such determination and confidence... makes me think I've still got a lot I can do yet!

He has one of the worst cases the Drs. have ever seen in their years of practice. EVEN on the bottom of his feet!! Doin' much better now. Starting to scab over, just won't let him back in school yet, watching for infection. They were the large water blisters. Bordering on shingles. Painful, VERY painful. Other than that, we are doing well. Off of work today, so think I'll clean that hall closet... (((((porch))))). ~New Neighbor.

New Neighbor I am sorry to hear about your little one's chicken pox. I sure hope he gets to feeling better soon.
Hey to Salty Dog. I am sorry to hear about the passing of your friend's dog. I haven't had a pet since I was a kid. I think I am just too lazy to commit to cleaning up after an animal. I do understand how much pet owner's love their animals though. A few years back my brother's dog passed on somewhat unexpectedly. I happened to drop in on him, (which I NEVER do) just as he was preparing to bury his dear friend. That is a day I will never forget. I hope your friend finds some peace in knowing she gave her pet a happy life.
Well, since it is election day tomorrow, why not take a vote on what we should have for breakfast? Eggs: scrambled or sunny side up? Bacon or Sausage? Oatmeal or grits? (I know, I know!) Pancakes or hash browns? Coffee or tea? Juice or Milk? What's it gonna be?
Have a great day friends!

New Neighbor, my youngest had chicken pox like that too with blisters even on her feet so she couldn't walk. We got out her little scooter horse that she had as a toddler and she used it as a sort of makeshift 'wheelchair'....lol it was a sight but, it was much easier for her to get around. Maybe you could find your boy something like that too. BTW, maybe having chicken pox this bad is a precursor to having shingles later because when she was a teen she had shingles two or maybe three times. Apparently, she just doesn't have the immunity the rest of us have to the c.p. virus. Just something to keep heads up about later on cause when my daughter began complaining about the pain I thought she was exagerating a simple rash. Prayers for your son's quick recovery. ~Clara~
November 04, 2002 - Msg 10176:
I have never had chicken pox and I sure don't want them now! When I worked at the hospital they tested me to see if I was immune and i was not, so I guess I have just been lucky.
I'm plum tired today. Baby girl drank some juice yesterday that gave her a painful diaper rash so she was up alot last night! Hope tonight is better. I have to keep reminding myself that, "the days are long, but the years are short.". My little ones will be grown in no time.
Hope you all have a good evening.
