September 27, 2002 - Msg 9221: Hey Happy, sorry if i came down hard on you yesterday. I guess like you, I felt pretty dissapointed
to hear the truth. I think I would rather have not known, but no harm done. You have to understand I am huge Andy fan.
Well, hope everyone is hanging in there today. Prayers for sick friends and relatives. Happy, I hope they find some relief for your friend with cancer. I hope they are doing all they can to give her the relief she needs. In some states, dr's withhold adequate pain medicine for fear of lawsuits. Cancer patients sometimes need what we would consider huge doses of narcotics and many dr's are afraid to give such large doses to their patients. If she continues to weaken, I pray she will consider hospice care which has a much better reputaion for easing the suffering of cancer patients. Just my two cents worth (as a nurse). Boo

September 27, 2002 - Msg 9222: By the way, there is something I have been meaning to tell all my friends on the porch and this seems like a good time. This is hard to say, but when I first joined the porch, I didn't really understand how things worked and I made up a fictional character named "Boo" who was a man. Well, I want you all to know that I am not a man, but I am really a woman. I hope you aren't dissapointed with me. It was fun being Boo but you have become friends and I want you know that I am not a man after all. I still want to keep the name Boo, though. Hope I didn't shock anyone.....Love, Boo

September 27, 2002 - Msg 9223: Oh, also, I am a stay at home mom who homeschools her children--Boo (boy I bet that sounds strange to you guys after having known me as a "man".--Boo

September 27, 2002 - Msg 9224: BOO HAS COME OUT OF THE CLOSET!! You don't know how hard I am laughing! I kind of thought you were a girl, but I wasn't sure. Doesn't bother me a bit.
What does bother me is bad talk about poor old Andy. I don't think most people understand how much a "star" loses his privacy and all that. I think well-meaning people go up to "hug Andy's neck" and he could be tired, mad, even a bit scared with all the nut cases around these days. Perhaps Happy knows best about Andy, but I guess I don't want to hear it. I give the guy a lot of leeway because he has made my life just a bit happier being such a good entertainer for years.
By the way Happy, I lost my mother, father, and 39 year old sister in law to smoking related cancers. I am with you 100% on the hope that our fellow porchster's who smoke consider giving it up. But, if any one out there is a smoker, I will say I hate how non-smoker's treat you all sometimes. I watched my poor mother get dirty looks for smoking in places where it was ALLOWED! Used to make me so mad! I didn't want her to smoke either, but folks don't have to be so RUDE about it.
Boy, what got me going this morning? Now I am laughing at myself! Getting all worked up like this.
Well, anyway, you all have a great day. You're all just the cat's, you know that?
Mary Wiggins

September 27, 2002 - Msg 9225: Oh my gosh Boo, and here I told you all my boy secrets. JEEPERS. I knew you was a girl though, I was just testing you is all.
If Salty and Helen don't post today, I'm gonna hold my breath till I turn colors. Thats a warning you two. And you know Mavis, we could stand to see a little more of you around here also. SO THE THREE OF YOU, GIT WITH IT!!! LOL.
I sure don't know what it must be like to be a star so nothing much I can say about our dear old Andy. I hear he is a man who really cherishes his privacy, and I imagine that is tough to do at times. There was somone who psted somewhere that they had bumped into Andy at a resteraunt somewhere and he was as nice as could be so who knows. I'm sure he's a fine feller though and like you Mary, like to think the best. Not to down play what you said at all Happy. Maybe he was going through some personal trials or something.
Anyway, what are your weekend plans folks? I'm going golfing and put my garden to bed for the winter. He is lurking around the corner me thinks.

September 27, 2002 - Msg 9227: Morning Porch,
My, my, everbody's gettin fiesty... what a way to go into TGIF!... We don't want no feudin now otherwise we just might have to do one of them Frenchie affairs and get someone who was over there durin the war and learnt to count to ten in French! Don't worry none though, Andy'll take all the bullets out before anyone commences to countin! And if'in yer legs is too tired, we understand... everyone knows at our age, our legs is the first things to go!
Speaking of Andy... I guess I figure like Mary that if I were always pounced on in public, I'd be a bit reluctant, too. Whatever Andy Griffith's 'real' personality is like, the Andy that we've all grown to love is "Andy Taylor" and like you said, Happy, that's because these people are actors and they're just people like the rest of us and they may be nothing like their character... Heavens, I can't imagine that the real 'Otis' is a town drunk with keys to the town jailhouse!
Mary, curiosity is gonna kill this here cat!...ya still ain't told me what ya was countin the other day!
Boo, at first, from what you were writing, I thought you were a man, but last week I knew you weren't from the way you sounded and then I just assumed that you had just 'played' a character for a while... it's okay with me... no harm done a'tall. Glad you cleared it up though. I homeschooled too.. it's a wonderful endeavor.
Asa, now don't go turnin colors on us... we just got used to that attractive red you turned during the summer!
Mary, Happy, prayers for your loved ones.
Hey to all the rest of the Porch this fine Friday morning... Briscoe, Homemaker, Hazel, Possum, Helen, Romeena, MPO, Charlotte, Neighbor, Fun Girl, Frankie, Mavis, Floyd, Ellen, Ernest T. Gator, and anyone else who hasn't checked in for a while....

God's blessings on you all, ~Clara~

September 27, 2002 - Msg 9229: Sorry;o(, didn't mean to bust any bubbles! Maybe Andy was tired of all the people bothering him. He started out living in a gated neighborhood called "Landfall" near Wrightsville Beach but I was told that even his wealthy neighbors (the place is real expecsive to live there) would peer at him and bother him. He moved to Figure Eight Island just North of Wrightsville Beach and that is more private. Kim Bassenger (sp?) has a home there, I use to do her housecleaners hair when I was a hairdresser near there. Okay, just call me miss gossip!

Hope ya'll have a fine day!

September 27, 2002 - Msg 9230: No need to be sorry Happy. We luvs ya. Well...are you a boy or a girl? I'm so confused anymore I ain't sure what I am. Boo is a her, Hazel is a him. Yikes, the sun is gonna rise in the west next. LOL

Asa

September 27, 2002 - Msg 9231: LOL Asa, I said it before but will tell you again, I am 100% female! Guess it can get confusing but then again names like Bobby, Jackie, Riley, and others could be a guy or girl so I reckon you are safest to just ask!;o)
(and I am thinking you are male? ASA could stand for something?)

Have a good one,

September 27, 2002 - Msg 9234: Gosh, Asa, I hope you really didn't believe me when I said I was a man. I was just funnin. Do you want me to have my hubby write a note or something? And Boo, you told us that you got your nick name as a child. Was that part right?

September 27, 2002 - Msg 9235: Hazel, are you having an ident-ity crisis? First your a girl, then yer a boy, now you say yer a girl again. I declare I'm beginning to feel like Ernest T when he grabbed hold of Barney in Charlene's dress. Just kidding Hazel. I KNEW you was a she.
Hey Happy, I live in the northern part of Utah up in them there hills. Glad yer staying dry. That storm has been a real gully washer.

September 27, 2002 - Msg 9236: Hey to Clara!
In response to your question "what was I counting", it wasn't me counting, honest! The message you're refering to is probably 9205, there was no signature on that message. Then on message 9206 it simply said "5". That message was signed by Mrs. Wiley. And as we all know Mrs. Wiley is Mrs. Wiley. I am Mary Wiggins, not to be confused with Mrs. Wiley!;0) I think Mrs. Wiley was trying to sign the previous post, but I ain't sure?!!

Since every one is admitting who they really are (or aren't) I guess it was about time I admitted that I am not Mrs. Wiley!
Well, I think I am going to just set here on the porch a spell and admire the evening. It's always so nice out and smells so good after a good rainfall! Hope to see you all on the porch!

September 27, 2002 - Msg 9237: Well,my goodness! Boo is a lady? Hazel did you make up your mind what you are yet? Ha Ha I care about all of y'all-girl,boy,whatever you might be! Heck,I'm a possum and y'all treat me fine! LOL
Happy,I'm a Carolina girl too! I'm in the other Carolina.Nice to make your aquaintance.(Those are my a-men-a-nees).I'm a mannerly possum!
This is getting sillier and sillier,so I think I'd best crawl back under the rock.Y'all have a great weekend!

September 27, 2002 - Msg 9238: Laaawww! I declare, I think I'm gonna have a spell! All this persona-changing, I can't keep it all straight. Boo, I accepted your claim to be a man at first, but recently began to wonder, based on a couple of things you said. Don't remember specifically, but something just sounded "female". Hazel, I didn't believe you for a minute - you can't fool me! Asa, I've always known you were a man, and I'm glad you didn't tell us different, because I just don't think my nerves could stand that! Some things just have to stay the same - too scary when they change.
Regarding Andy's personality, I think he's a terrific actor, and I think the personalities of his major characters are pretty close to the person he was/is at the time he portrayed them. In the TAGS years, I'll bet he was reasonably friendly and kind. He has a good heart, as evidenced by his loyalty to many of the people who were on TAGS. He kept Howard McNear working after his stroke, making many allowances for his disability. He had many of the TAGS people on Matlock. I suspect that as he got older, went through a serious health crisis, and just got tired (don't we all?), he might have gotten a bit crochety and grumpy, much like the character of Matlock! Anyway, since this is sort of a make-believe Mayberry that we inhabit, I guess we can just make him anything we want him to be.
Prayers for the sick friends and relatives - prayers indeed. Never underestimate the value of those prayers. Whether the healing takes place in this world or the next, the families and friends need all the prayerful support they can get, and I'm here to tell you, it helps.

It's enough to give my one of them migratin' headaches. LOL And that calls for some---all together now---mulberry squeezings.

To all my porch friends, of one thing you may be certain. I am girl and if anything, I am just too much FUN.

Andy: "Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive."
Barney: "Hi Sweetie-pie ... OH, hello, Frank."
Henrietta Swanson: "She was voted young lady most likely to become charming."

Asa I'm sorry I ain't been posting much, I had an aunt pass away on Sun, she was 88 years old & have been with family that flew in from Washington State. Besides that I was kinda afraid to post anything, seems when I posted the other day, something happened & everybody kept getting kicked off the porch, I figured it was me cause mine was the post that was there when I'd get kicked off, I had just mashed the post button & got pitched offline at about the same time, so I don't know what happened. September 28, 2002 - Msg 9268: Morning Porch, I have a prayer request of you all. My youngest daughter was having lots of personal problems last spring and you all prayed for her and praise the Lord, she seems to have made a great change in her life. She is settled, has a steady job and works hard, she has good friends, she stays close to and is helpful to family... it's been a miracle really. Well, this past week, she found a lump on her breast. Now, normally at her age, we wouldn't worry about it being anything serious but, I had breast cancer at the age of 25 the first time with a recurrence in the lymph nodes two years later, then the other breast had cancer at the age of 32. It was serious enough to have to have had both mastectomies, radiation one time, and chemo the next. So, needless to say, because the doctors say this could very well be genetic (don't know of the previous generations cause I was adopted), there is a LOT of concern in my family over this. Naturally we will be taking her to see the doctor asap but, since she is not yet eligible for her work's health insurance, we are looking to have to take her to county services or pay for it ourselves. The last time she went to county services for a broken ankle, it was just awful... On one appointment, they refused to remove the cast because her eligibility period had run out and she hadn't reapplied so they were going to make her go through all the redtape and wait another month to get the cast off! I know you can't be choosy when you're getting something for almost nothing and we do appreciate it. Still, I'm praying we can get her on her dad's insurance somehow.... Well, sorry to go on like this. I guess you can tell this is preying on my mind. We all love our kids and want them safe. And I just keep thinking how good she is doing now... please pray for her. Thanks, my friends.
Prayers for all of you as always and prayers for all your loved ones who have special need of them.
~Clara~

September 28, 2002 - Msg 9269: Dear Clara, of course we will pray for your daughter and your family. After she's just gotten back on her feet; and now this happens, bless her heart. I will be hoping for the best. Please keep us posted.
- Hazel

September 28, 2002 - Msg 9270: Evening Porch, Before I have everyone any more worried, I'm relieved to tell you that it looks like the 'lump' may have already gone down a bit which means it most likely isn't a tumor but a cyst instead. Well, I must say, asking this group for prayer works even before the praying starts! I guess God knows faithful people when He sees them! Anyway, my daughter still needs prayers in general and your prayers there will still help.. with the insurance problems, etc. I could use some too with a few personal problems I will be dealing with soon. Nothing medical, thank the Lord, but they will be trying on the spirit. Thank you all... brings a tear to my eye when I think how good you all are to a body in need. I just love this Porch... ~Clara~

September 28, 2002 - Msg 9271: Oh my, Hazel, I forgot to say a special thank you for being the first to say you would pray.... sorry... I was so busy being sure you all wouldn't worry too unnecessarily. Thanks so much.. it just means the world when you know you've got good folks who care like you do. ~Clara~

September 28, 2002 - Msg 9272: Hey Clara,
How considerate of you to post so quickly about your daughter's progress so WE don't worry! Well, you sure have my prayers also. I just want to encourage you to hang in there, I know it can be hard sometimes with grown children. (Nobody told me I would worry about them all my life! I always thought when your kids turn 18 you just magically stop worrying!) It is good to hear how well your daughter is doing in all the other areas of her life and hopefully we will soon hear that her health is perfect! I will pray for you to endure in all other areas also. It is great to know we have a "family" we can turn to here for prayer as well as in our own families and church families. Praise God!

And as for the rest of the porch, have a Mayberry kind of evening!

September 29, 2002 - Msg 9274: Dear Lord, thank you for friends who care. Bless Clara with peace of mind and assurance of your constant care for her and her daughter. You even care for the birds of the air, so how much more you care for us. May that lump be nothing more than a benign cyst and draw that child even closer to you and you provide for her needs as you have been, Lord, and we thank you. We ask you to please continue to heal Romeena's family and bless all the good folks who gather here with us. Protect our families and draw out children to You, Lord, that they might serve you all of their days. We love and thank you. In Jesus name, Amen

Softball season gets over and she drops outta sight, hhhmmmm where is that crock? Have a restful Sabbath, and spend time with the ones you love. A prayer request: Email from an aunt today that said that my grandma is not doing well. She is 97 and in the last stages of cancer. She lived with us for 2 years and now lives in Mississippi with her niece. Grandma and Grandad were married for 76 years before Grandad went home with the Lord 3 years ago. Pray that the Lord takes her gently,(that's how she is) . It seems only fitting for her! Thankfully she is a dear sweet Christian lady who did so much for others in her long life. Her favorite show is TAGS!!! Thanks, it's good to have prayin' friends. ~New Neighbor

September 29, 2002 - Msg 9277: Thanks, Boo, you are a treasure. Those prayers are so precious. Clara, we'll continue to pray for you and yours. I, too, have had bilateral mastectomies, so I know how scary it can be.

I get to go on vacation up in northern Michigan starting tomorrow morning so you all are just going to have to get along without me. I know it will be hard, but if you try real hard I don't think you'll suffer too much! Now don't go gettin' all emotional, it's just until next Sunday or Monday! I hope to do a little leaf peepin and horse back ridin' and lot's of euchre playin' (that's a card game if you don't know!)
Speaking of cards, my grandma used to play a game called canasta. I played it a time or two with her but I can't remember how. Any one out there ever play that game? I'll check back in a week from now and see how you all are doing.
I won't take a vacation from praying, so Romeena, Clara, and all else who needs 'em, I'll be sending some prayers on the behalf of all these wonderful porchsters!

September 29, 2002 - Msg 9281: Ev'a'nin' porch! Clara, prayers for your situation, and for your daughters health (how scary!). Jelsik and MPO you're a couple of 'cards' you are, I busted a gut up there. La la la la Lo-la...

prayers for NewNeighbor's Grandma, too. Sigh. Seems like it's the season for worryin' about the relatives. Rest assured, Jesus is in control!

Aunt W passed to Heaven Friday night. It was peaceful, and I thank you all for your prayers.

September 29, 2002 - Msg 9282: Hello dear Porchsters, just wanted to check in. First, I want to add my prayers to eveyone else's on the porch for everyone and their special loved ones who need them such as NN's grandma... 97! and married for 76 years! What an inspiration to us all. Mrs. Wiley, it was a blessing to hear of your Aunt's peaceful passing.
Second, I want to say a special thank you to dear Boo, your prayer, and dear Happy, your timely words lifted my spirits for sure.. and to thank all the rest of you for praying for my daughter... Hazel, Mrs. W, Mary, Salty, Romeena, and anyone I might have missed. You all are the dearest, sweetest friends in time of need and I just know your prayers are helping.
Mary, have a wonderful vacation and don't worry about us none. By the way, my Mom taught me to play canasta when I was knee high to a grasshopper. Can't rightly remember the actual rules but, it's similiar to rummy just a lot more complicated and played with two decks. I think you can find it in Hoyle's card game manual.
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend and have a great week. God bless you all, ~Clara~

September 29, 2002 - Msg 9283: Just a quick note - am I remembering correctly? Did one of you sweet folks email me the poem about "The Rainbow Bridge"? If so, let me know, I'd like to find it again. Thanks, friends. Sugarplum says hey! --Romeena

September 29, 2002 - Msg 9284: That would be me Romeena that mailed you that there poem, I will see if I can find it again for you & get it straight out in the mail. I'm off to bed, had a long day today after an even longer night, my head didn't hit the piller til 4am this morning & it come back up off that piller at 8am (seems a little Boston Terrier had to go potty) So I'm hittin the hay, see ya'll tomorrow!

September 30, 2002 - Msg 9285: What is the name of the song Rafe Hollister Sings

please email me - herron86@earthlink.net

anybody - it's driving me crazy

thanks

September 30, 2002 - Msg 9286: I can't remember the song Rafe sings but I remember liking it real well. Hope all my porch friends have a good tomorrow. Let your light shine! Lord take NN's sweet Grandma home gently and swiftly that she might finally receive her great reward. In Christ's name, Amen.---Boo

September 30, 2002 - Msg 9287: Wow! What a difference a few days makes! Boo, I'd be a-shamed. Here I thought all this time that you were an older father with a new baby--so concerned about her (?) cryin' and all and takin' the bottle away, etc. My, my. Oh what tangled webs we weave! Just kiddin', Boo. I really did think you were a man all this time, but then I thought Salty and Possum were too at first (just because of their names). Sometimes it's hard to tell. Just so's you all know... I, Charlotte, am a female. And in case some of you are unaware, my name comes from Malcolm Tucker's phone conversation with the sisters whose feet fall asleep (Maude and Cora). They ask Malcolm Tucker if he's of the Buffalo Tuckers and he says no, he's from Charlotte--hence, Charlotte Tucker, me. Most of you all know that, but some might not. And Hazel, as usual, you took my quote. When everyone was decidin' what gender they were, I was going to post "You ain't in and I ain't in. You ain't out and I ain't out" or whatever that is Otis says but you beat me to it. And whoever's been singin' Lo-la has been crackin' me up! Don't pay any attention to Jelsik. You can keep singin' if you want to! No offense, Jelsik. Jelsik, are you a feller? What about Briscoe? Just how many real live fellers have we got on here. If Asa decides that he ain't a feller, I ain't ever comin' back! Where's Dixie Belle? Since she' s always on Guywatch 2002, I hope she's a she. Oh well, whatever.

September 30, 2002 - Msg 9289: Wasn't the song Rafe sang called "That Lonesome Road" or something like that? I don't know for sure, but it seems like some of the words were, "Walk on, walk down that lonesome road...." I don't rightly know, but I think it was something like that. All I do know is "that 'un makes me cry." Rest assured porch friends, I am all girl. (hence the name) But I am NOT a desperate female hunter seeing as how I done caught me a purty man. He was fillin' his radiator from the horse trough when I spotted him. His truck wasn't quite as big as the Darling's, as his only took 6 hatfulls. But he is purty. And we all know purty is as purty does. He is clean purty inside and out. Well enough of my mush and gush and carrying on.

Mary Wiggins--My grandma used to play canasta with us kids. We loved that game. I would always hold my wildcards trying to get a straight and she would be ready to go out and she would have the cutest giggle, as she knew what I was trying to do. Whenever she would giggle like that I would start begging for her to give me just one turn to try and get rid of my wild cards. And like a wonderful grandma that she was, she would always give me one chance. Funny the things that you remember when someone jogs your memory.

Don't forget that penny what's been run over by a train to bring you luck and protect you in your travels. Have a good time.

September 30, 2002 - Msg 9294: Hey to the porch -
We saw Tim Conway and Don Knotts Saturday night and the show was great. I had ordered our tickets within 5 minutes of when they went on sale and we were front row center. I mean, very front row and right on the center aisle. Tim Conway was as funny as we expected and hoped he would be. We had seen Don Knotts 3 times before but this was th best, he seemed to be feeling better than he had been in the past. ANYway, it was a great show. We had never been to any of the casinos before (the show was at the Horseshoe in Tunica, MS "gateway to Monte Carlo") and we weren't sure what to expect. We went in early to eat and look around a bit and make sure we knew where to go at show time but had let the tickets and cameras and all in the car. There were signs outside the theater saying "NO CAMERAS ALLOWED" so I went back and got the tickets and left the cameras in the car. Just before the curtain went up, Tim Conway announced that it was against the rules to take pictures or record any of th show but "what are they going to do to you?" so "take all pictures you want and if you want to tape it, that's fine too." Well, I wasn't going to miss any of the show by running back out during it so I didn't get any pictures. I didn't let that bother me though, we still ejoyed the show greatly and we had a nice slow drive home through some of the backroads of northern Mississippi yesterday.

September 30, 2002 - Msg 9295: Hey to fun girl -
Rafe's real name was Jack Prince. It seems like somebody once said they only record he was on was the soundtrack to one of the Broadway plays he was in ("Destry Rides Again"?) but that's just what I heard, may not be true.
Besides "Look Down That Lonesome Road" and "New River Train", he also did "Believe Me If All These Endearing Young Charms."

MPO
Well, that's just another way of doing it, it's the same song."

September 30, 2002 - Msg 9296: Oh, that sounds like so much fun Milton P., I sure wish I could have seen Don Knotts and Tim Conway. I've always wanted to see those two. Nobody Mayberryish ever comes to Idaho. Although George Kennedy now lives here in Boise. He was in one ep of TAGS. "The Big House" I think it was. But he don't do no stand up comedy.
Fun Girl, Rafe was played by Jack Prince. I read somewhere that he was a professional singer, so he must have some recorded music out there somewhere. He sure had a fine set of pipes.

September 30, 2002 - Msg 9316: Thanks, Clara, I can sure use those prayers! I'm sure I do get alot more tired than someone younger than me but I am one of those people who want my children around for a long, long time so I'm glad the Lord gave them to me late in life. I was single until my early thirties and worked full-time as an RN in a busy labor and delivery unit. I worked full time for about 15 years and I was ready to start a family and change careers (from nurse to wife and mom). Before I became pregnant with my first, my doctor said I may never have children because of a hormone imbalance (I have a disease called Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) and I certainly had no chance of conceiving with out fertility drugs. Well, both of my children were conceived without any drugs or fertility treatments. My odds of conceiving and carrying to term my baby girl were less than 1%, especially considering my advanced age. So, we don't complain much we are just very thankful! It helps make the hard days easier.---Thank you for your kind words and prayers!--Boo

You and Boo had many shenanigans on movie nights that I thought was two fellers. Enough about that, Boo. You are forgiven. And I can relate to you about the 40 part, just not the infant part.
