April 13, 2002 - Msg 6251: Mavis, we missed Columbia Mule Days this year. . .too much going on. My husband went through withdrawals. Helen, can you sneak me into the concert tonite. I just love the Gaither Homecoming tapes. Asa, hope the golf ball goes right in the hole for you today. Sugarplum, you would look dandy in a uniform! It's rainy here and the husband is ill. So - I'm off to get some stuff done.

April 13, 2002 - Msg 6252: Morning Porch! Sorry I haven't posted, between trying to help Jo at work & a sick headache all day yesterday, I was in the bed most of the evening. Rock I knew what ramps were, that's how I had that link for the festival. I love the things! I'm off to do some running & make sure I have my pills in case the headache starts again, we got an audition tonight & I need to be up for it. Ya'll behave yerself! & Asa don't be late we are meeting here at my house at 5:00 to go over some songs.
*Mavis

April 13, 2002 - Msg 6253: Thank you, Helen. If no one objects, then, I'll get started on Sugarplum's uniform right away. The hat's gonna be a big difficult, but I think I can figure it out. Maybe I can cut the end off a paper towel roll to serve as the frame, and just cover it with plastic. Her head's not very big, you know.
Asa, thanks for the kind words. I have faith in you, I know you'll get my drains done. Meantime, I'll keep the food coming, don't want you to lose your strength. Supper tonight will be pounded steak a la Morelli, (I pound them right here on the premises) and mashed taters and gravy, fresh snap beans and strawberry shortcake. Don't be late now, and be sure to wash up before you come in.
Ms. Wezee, your pond sounds lovely. Have you put any hostas around it? They're so pretty, and my "hardiness zone" map tells me you're in Zone 5, and hostas can be planted as far north as Zone 3, so they should do fine. There are many varieties, all beautiful, and they come back every year, so long as you keep the slugs off of them. I believe Aunt Bee grows them, though that could be just a rumor.
Have a lovely weekend, friends. Asa, I'll see you at supper tonight.--Romeena

April 13, 2002 - Msg 6254: Whooooosh! I always seem to get caught in the sweep. Wonder what causes that? Oh, make that "a bit difficult" in 6253. Drat!
Asa, you go right on to that meeting at Mavis's. I'll keep supper warm, or maybe I'll just start it a bit later.--Romeena

April 13, 2002 - Msg 6255: Hey porch
was just checking back, yes Romeena I have all kinds of hostas through out my flower bed & I have put some around the pond, I do like those plants that come back every year. seeing ur keepin supper warm, may I drop by also? LOL.. Ms Wezee

April 13, 2002 - Msg 6256: Hey to all my Porch friends. I haven't seen y'all in a month of Sundays! Hope everyone is doing well. I really haven't had a chance to catch up. Sorry about your headache Mavis. I have a friend that gets migraines and they are not fun.

Got time to breathe. Got time for the Porch. Well folks I've barely had time to breathe lately. I'll try to catch up later. Mr. Tilley is working 16 hrs. today.

April 13, 2002 - Msg 6257: Don't you get it Andy? Weaver is robbing his own store.

April 13, 2002 - Msg 6258: Boy oh boy, everybody is busy today. Golfing, taking care of sick hubbys, getting ready for auditions and making little uniforms. I been watching a TAGS tape, just saw "The Loaded Goat". (One swift kick and blewey) Before that one I watched "Aunt Bee the Warden". (Aunt Bee? Bloody Mary!) I think I'll watch one more, then I'll get busy too. Right after lunch. Then a nap. Yeah, then I'll get busy.
- Hazel

I came to fill my vase.

April 13, 2002 - Msg 6259: Hey, Ms Wezee! Sure, come on by for supper. I'll drop another tater in the pot, pound another steak, and there'll be plenty. Naturally, I'm cooking a washtub full of snap beans, with a bit of salt jowl - not too shabby!
I'm glad you're using hostas. I just discovered them last year, thanks to my neighbor, who is also my nurseryman. He talked me into some, and I just love them. Bought 10 more yesterday. Thank goodness I get the "neighbor discount", because some of the little dears are a little dear!
If you want to have a little fun, run a search on "hosta". You'll come up with dozens of sites, most with great photos. Some stunning new varieties are available.
Well, guess I'll go measure the Plum for her uniform. She's very excited. However, Asa, she said if you don't need a squeak toy player, she'd be happy to be the drum majorette. She just aims to please.--Romeena

April 13, 2002 - Msg 6260: Howdy Porch
My friend Ms Wezee, told me about this cozy place so I thought I'ld just come an visit . I do declare it is what she said all right, Yoohoo Ms Wezee, are you still sitting on the porch? Hello Dear. Ms Romeena, I to grow hostas they are great fillers & have such beautiful foliage as will as blooms, I will have to run a search on them myself as will. I play a lil piano & organ and I played the French Horn in school, I'ld love to be in the band, may I? Must see bye bye for now... Ant Bee

April 13, 2002 - Msg 6261: Hostas, I gottem in my yard good for show or accent, try Lirope too. Looks great in a rustic setting, around a pool, or in a rock garden, border too. Buy 3 of each, in 2-3 yrs. divide and you got 6 of each.
Welcome sweet spring time we geet the in sound.
Romeena, if you gottem save me a buscuit, running late. Hay Plum, good luck to you'n yours!

April 13, 2002 - Msg 6263: Is anybody there? Hey Chuck! Big Maude: "There's nobody home!" Hey to everybody sittin' on the porch. Been workin' on my books quite a bit and runnin' the younguns around. Sounds like we finally got off of ramps and now we're onto hostas. I love hostas and have them around my porch. The variety I have don't care much for sun though. They turn orange if they get too much sun. They're great shade plants. Finally got out today and cut off last year's old brown mums, butterfly bush, and asters. Hubby mowed the yard and it looks so nice. We also drained and refilled the hot tub and moved dirt from the new waterline they ran across our front yard. (We're just gettin' rural water.). Got a lot accomplished around the ol' place today. Sounds like everyone is in the mood for spring. Sugarplum in the band! Maybe she can help Luther get on key. I'd like to get to them Mayberry Days someday too. Sounds like a hoot! Hope you're over your headaches, Mavis. Welcome Ant Bee! Of course you're welcome to be in the band. We don't turn anyone down here in Mayberry. Are you from Illinois like me and Ms. Wezee? Ya'll take care. I'll try to check in tomorrow. Ya'll have a good Sabbath.
CharlotteTucker

April 13, 2002 - Msg 6264: So how come the whole world knew about hostas, and I only found about them last year? I need to get out more!
Dooley, I put a biscuit back for you, and some gravy, too.
My yard is shaping up very nicely. Little dwarf snapdragons and dianthus all came back from last year, blooming their little heads off. Quite a show. My roses, poor neglected things, are even trying to perk up. I hope Mr. Wheeler comes around in time to spray the aphids off of them.

Girls, listen to this. My son called this evening and asked me to come out to their house tomorrow afternoon and cook a pot roast so his wife could watch and learn how. Sound like trouble? Nope, it was my daughter-in-law's idea!! Bless her little sweet heart, she knows he loves my pot roast and she wants me to teach her how to do it. Am I blessed, or what?
Well, off to the ironing board. Gotta get up early for church in the morning.--Romeena

April 13, 2002 - Msg 6265: Good Sabbath Porch

April 14, 2002 - Msg 6270: Morning Porch, morning Wezee. Breakfast sounds real good, thanky much.
Lawwwww that Romeena can cook good. She filled me up last night on her cooking and I tell ya, I can't hardly stand it. Good cooker she is.
And the Plumpster looks so cute in his little uniform. He'll be a great addition to the band Mavis. Speaking of Mavis, that girl can singgg. She hits them high notes and I tell ya yer ears just wanna stand up and salute her. I am honered to be a stand by cymbalist in her band.
Welcome to Ant bee. Hope you like it here. It's a great place to be. Finest folks in the world sit here on the porch.

Ya'll have a great Sabbath and we'll talk at ya later.

April 14, 2002 - Msg 6271: Asa! Sugarplum is indignant, and says to tell you she is a little girl, not a "he". However, she's not one to hold a grudge, and will forgive you. A couple of baby carrots on your next visit wouldn't hurt - she loves 'em.
Ms Wezee, may I drop by for a bite of breakfast? Sounds very good, but I won't eat much. Got to save room for that pot roast I'm gonna teach my daughter-in-law how to make this afternoon. You have to give her credit. The girl can't cook, but wants to learn, and is even willing to learn from her mother-in-law. That's something you don't see every day.
Everyone have a restful Sabbath now, you hear? Peace, friends!--Romeena

April 14, 2002 - Msg 6272: Morning porch looks like everyone is up and at em this morning. Ro, that roast sounds good. Will you save me some for a left over sandwich? Tell the Plum hello for me. Yall have a good Sabbath. Off to preaching then to work. Yes on Sunday. Oh well I get next Sunday off. See yall later--SD

April 14, 2002 - Msg 6273: Oh dear. Asa, you have hurt the Plums feelings. You better bring her a whole bag of baby carrots, the poor dear. Romeena, you do have a sweet daughter-in-law. Welcome to Ant Bee and Dooley (I think Dooley is new too, maybe not). See you all later.

April 15, 2002 - Msg 6295: Well porch friends, last night we lost power for about 6 hours. Forgive me as I wax strong here, but when the power goes out, everything comes to a halt. The house gets so quiet, and so does the whole nieghborhood. It becomes a great time to reflect on life, during those quiet times, as was the case for me last night. As darkness crept into the house, the silence became even more pervassive. I pondered many things in the prevailing silence, but one question kept returning to me over and over. A troubling question, one which I wonder if you may have pondered during similar events. A question that would not go away. A question I would like to share with you now at this time. A simple question. A question that I finally answered.
Did I remember to pay the power bill last month?
I guess I did cause here I am. Life sure makes you wonder sometimes, don't it.
May God bless you friends.
Glad your home safe Mrs Wiley.
Talk to you all later.

Asa

April 15, 2002 - Msg 6296: Asa, I declare, you are a bird in this world! "Did I remember to pay the power bill last month?" Had me all geared up for a profound question, something life-changing and powerful, and you ask about the power bill! Shame on you!!--Romeena

April 15, 2002 - Msg 6297: Hi Porchsters! Asa you are a bird! Well, Mom is doing just fine - we was lucky enough to get to watch TAGS together while I was there, one of those moments I treasure with Mom. I tried to explain the Porch and how we all commune with one'n other but she just barely gets the concept. I told the parents about ramps - was a new one on them too! Yep, yall what's got TVLand are livin large - Andy 3 times a day! You wouldn't believe that in the big city at 6:30am the birds all start to singing and it's some song. It gets louder and louder till it's one big chirpy scream. In their yard we saw blue birds (which I had not seen since I was 3) and there's some yellow worbler-looking birds we had to get the book out to identify. Lots of nature there in the heart of Buckhead.

Stopped at "our" place on the way home and thought of y'all while I had fried okra, fried apples, greens, hash brown casarole and corn bread. MmmmMM! I think they use bacon grease in their corn bread. Awesome stuff!

Well, I got the call - surgery is definately on. 3 weeks to go! Hope the job holds out at least that long.

~ Mrs. Wiley
Asa, does that mean if you didn't pay your electric bill they'd come and take you away?

April 15, 2002 - Msg 6300: Evening Porch. Ms Wezee just saw your reply, I use to go on Sautrday, I grew up in the 7th Day Adventist Church Schools, but like you am comfortable with both and when I go it is usually on Sunday. Same God, just something that I have been confused bout most of my life, the day thing.
Had a birthday last weekend, I find as each year goes by, a birthday is a good thing, just glad to be here!;o) Hey Mavis, ya need any help ironing? I love to play in starch!
Happy

April 15, 2002 - Msg 6301: Happy, you can have my ironing - i can't stand it. The Day thing - as I understand it, Sabbath for Jews is Fri after sunset to Sat after sunset (Saturday). When Jesus came to redeem us, the covenant changed Sabbath to SonDay (Sunday). 7th Day Adventists keep Sabbath on Saturday. Us Catholics have a "Vigil Mass" Saturday evening for those who can't attend Sunday - the thinking being that it's already Sunday in the Holy Land - and all regular masses on Sunday. Are you thouroughly confused now?

Big news, Friends and I do mean BIG! The Cable bill just came in and guess what they're adding to Basic cable on May 1...just guess...go on... I've only been whining about it for a year...TVLAND!! OH YEAY!! THANK YOU JESUS!! OH MY GOSH IT'S GREAT NEWS!!

Well, we are off to sunny (I hope) southern California for a few days, so you won't have old Asa to kick around.:) You all better take care and keep my rocking chair warm for me. I leave right after work today so I don't know if I'll be a posting again today, so if not, you all be good (sniff) and (sob) remember I love ya, (bawl) and act like you (snort) got some smarts. April 16, 2002 - Msg 6314: Mornin' everybody! I didn't get a chance to sit on the porch any yesterday. Went to Peoria with a friend to some book stores and out for lunch. Spring has sprung in Illinois. It was a beautiful day! Got to get busy and get those books done so I can start enjoying the weather. I'll help you fold clothes too Mavis. It ain't my favorite thing but there are worse chores! Love to all!

April 16, 2002 - Msg 6315: Morning porch! Asa, you have a wonderful weekend. You sure deserve the vacation. I am having a better day so far. It is a wonder what a good nights sleep does for a body. Really puts things in perspective. Gonna go wash my car. See yall later-SD

April 16, 2002 - Msg 6316: Asa, don't let the bus start moving yet! Aunt Bee dropped her earring and it went underneath. Oh, wait - Opie got it for her. Now you can go. Have a wonderful trip, and we'll keep your chair warm. Thanks for getting that French drain put in for me before you left. You're a good friend.
Dooley, we sure enough are glad you decided to stay with us, and anyone else who's been visiting, also. Might just as well stick around and become a Mayberrian. No happier folks anywhere.
I've been a Baptist all my life, and of course we consider Sunday to be the Sabbath, but I've always felt that the Lord wouldn't hold us responsible for whatever particular day we worship, because the calendar has been re-worked so many times and we can't help that. I think it's the intent of the heart - keeping A sabbath day, dedicating that day to the Lord and devoting the day to worship, rest and recharging our physical and spiritual batteries. In other words, the spirit of the law, not the letter of the law is what matters. That's my humble opinion.
Have a lovely day, friends.--Romeena

April 16, 2002 - Msg 6317: Good afternoon porch pals. It's a lovely day for porch sittin'. I don't have long to rock today though. Hope everyone is doing well. NRNMG

April 16, 2002 - Msg 6321: I worship the Lord every day. It is 24 - 7. To each his own.. What ever a person is confortable with . God loves us all and I know from what I read here we all love Him. Good night all.. Ms Wezee

April 16, 2002 - Msg 6322: You are so right, Ms Wezee! It does no good to observe a "Sabbath", if we don't live our faith the rest of the week.
Oh, Dooley, Sugarplum says to thank you for the carrots. She's really enjoying them.
Now, I have to go to work! Managed to get cancelled for the first four hours, was hoping for the rest of the night, but they just called and said to come in at 11pm. Oh, well, I can use the money, but could have used the extra rest, too.
Have a good night's sleep, friends.--Romeena

April 16, 2002 - Msg 6323: Oh, I forgot the reason I came by the porch tonight in the first place. I just noticed another wandering door at Andy's house. Not only did his back door and his front steps move around, but that door into the kitchen from the dining room is a little unstable as well. In some eps it opens directly into the dining room, and tonight in the Founder's Day ep, it appeared to open facing into the living room. I've noticed at other times it seems to be at a 45 degree, or mitred (mitered?) angle, sort of splitting the difference between the living and dining rooms. Anybody got any comment?--Romeena

April 16, 2002 - Msg 6324: Asa Here's a penny that has been mashed by a train, it'll protect you in yer travels, have fun & think of us while yer gone. Thanks for all the help folding clothes, 'ppreciate it! Now we need to clean the fridge. teehee

April 16, 2002 - Msg 6327: That was just me doin' that testing. Didn't wanna type an entire post only to not have it show up, which happens sometimes with the browser I'm using.
Could y'all find it in your hearts to say a prayer or three for my 17-year-old cousin, Rachael in Mississippi, who was diagnosed with cancer this morning? She was in ICU awaiting surgery all last week. They did the surgery on Friday, removing some of her stomach to get all of a big tumor, and while they were in there they found tumors on her liver, too. All were malignant. We'd all surely appreciate any prayers and good thoughts.
Hope everyone is doing well. We got some rain today. That was good.
Love to all! I'll be back tomorrow. I'm really tired.
~De§~

April 17, 2002 - Msg 6328: Morning porch, Des lots of prayers for your cousin. I hope all goes well with her. Yall have a good day now. I am off to work. Coffees on, I guess I won't have to worry about the hot chocolate with Asa gone. sniff sniff. See yall later--Salty Dog

April 17, 2002 - Msg 6330: Mornin'! Prayers for your cousin, De§. What is it with cousins lately? Hope prayers are answered as well for yours as they were for Salty's. Any you all live in Illinois, Georgia, or where was the other place? Maybe someone here was the lucky winner! Not me, you don't win if you don't play. I'm not a gambler. I know what you mean about that wandering door Romeena. Sometimes the kitchen is off that sitting room (like when the fun girls came over) and sometimes the kitchen door is off to the right of the dining room like when they were eating at that table and the roast got dumped in Andy's lap. Who caused that anyhow? Virgil? But remember, Andy had three different street addresses so maybe there were three different houses. : )

God Showers Blessings.
God showers blessings upon us
through his infinite wisdom and love,
his gifts are like bountiful raindrops,
coming down from the father above.
he knows what we need and sends it
in his timely and caring way.
he hears every prayer we utter;
he knows what our hearts have to say.
so cast your burdens upon him;
our tears ever reach to his throne.
just give him control of your future;
in faith take hold of his hand,
then look for the showers of blessings,
as numerous as grains of the sand.
TOM.

April 18, 2002 - Msg 6345: Good Morning Porch! Eggs, biscuts, gravy, MEAT and coffee/tea is ready for you! Looks like everyone is sleeping in this am - guess I'll have to stand in for Asa, but I don't sing as loud..."Toot-Toot-Tootsie Good byee, Toot-Toot-Tootsie don't cryiiee..."

TOM, you are so good. I'm sorry that your kin don't visit you - sounds like they are the ones who are handicapped. You have such a good soul. If I lived near you, I'd come visit! You are always in my prayers. We are very glad that you are here and share such lovely poems with us.

April 18, 2002 - Msg 6346: Morning, Mrs. Wiley. Thanks for the breakfast. Hmmmmmm, singing already... and that song. I don't like to say this, but have you been taking a swig at that elixer again? Now I've told you before, thats got alcohol in it!
Tom, I'm sorry about your situation. Sometimes people need to walk just one day in someone else's shoes, and then maybe they would have a better understanding. I will pray that your family and friends will be able to not just think of themselves and to be tolerant and generous. But remember, you do have friends here on the porch.

April 18, 2002 - Msg 6349: Happy late Anny Ms Wezee! (And the quit smoking is going great, almost at the 4 month mark!)Thanks for all the imput from everyone on the Sabbath! How wonderful that there are so many that love Jesus here! Yes, I am still confused on the right day and will probably be until I die. It has been proven 100% to me from someone quoteing from the bible with both days??? I find good in EVERY faith, and never agree with everything in all of them too! Even the Budah and Hindu (sp?) have some very interesting ways that are good. My favorite is the ones that preach about how much Jesus loves us! So what bout all this "Summer" weather we are having! We have been promised rain here at the Carolina coast and haven't seen a drop! Got anyone that knows a rain dance out there?

April 18, 2002 - Msg 6353: Mornin' everybody. I told you before old Charlotte is very tenderhearted and that just cuts me into pieces to hear that your family won't come 'round, Tom. We'll pray for your family to wake up! Meanwhile know how much you are loved here on this porch. We were so worried about you awhile back when you didn't post. Check in often, you hear? Romeena, I was cleanin' out my flowerbed yesterday and thought about your french drains! It reminded me of a basement apartment we lived in once. The landlord had used bricks to border a flowergarden. A big flashflood type rain come and flooded that flower garden which was right in front of our basement bedroom window. The water just poured in and down the wall and through the whole apartment. We had about 2 inches standing water when we woke up the next morning! What a mess! So I hope Dooley got them drains in right! Have a Mayberry Day everybody!
