Title: Aneta Corsat
Post by shwump on Aug 1st, 2011 at 9:24am
Is there any interviews with Aneta about the Andy Griffith show? There seems to be very little information about her or her relationship with cast members.

Here's an interview about Aneta Corsaut that might be of interest:

Information on her is almost non-existent. She seems to have led a very private life. Makes me wonder if such information might be in Andy's book, if we ever get to read it.

Very interesting that she felt uncomfortable with the comedy on TAGS.  Now that I think about it, I can't remember any funny lines or scenes where she's funny.  I wonder if they wrote the part to fit or found her to fit the part.  Also, is her name pronounce with the 'e' long or short?  I've always pronounced it with a short 'e' (e as in egg) but she said her mother couldn't spell which makes it sound like it was w/a long e (e like eagle).

The correct pronunciation of
Aneta   Corsaut   is

uh nee tuh,   cor sew.

Did you know she was born on the same day as Ken Berry?

I know one funny line. It's one of her shortest, and one of my favorites:

Barney: "I still say, five minutes behind the barn!"

Helen: "He'd kill you."

;D Yes, absoultely the funniest line Helen spoke. The way she says it so serious makes me laugh every time!

If it's one of those Frenchie affairs--you know, like uno, duo, tres, and so on-- it's SO.
I must demur at the charge AC lacked  comic chops. While she didn't get the most memorable funny lines of the series, she was in there pitching with some funny reactions to Goober's clueless obiter dicta; a nice cat fight with Flora over Andy; great timing of Zowee! when Andy paints a desperately hopeful picture of her date with Howard the Dancin' Fool;her laughable if improbable flier she takes with Aunt Bee to invest in some gold digging that actually requires shovels; and, my favorite, her accusation that Andy employs a network of spies to keep her in the dark about his secret dalliances. I like AC pretty fine.

I think I see the problem.  These must be color episodes.  While I've watched them many times, they are not as dear to my heart as the B&W.  Aneta must have shown her "funny" side in the color eps.

I can see why she preferred drama.  She really was better in sympathetic scenes.  I can picture her on the sofa with Aunt Bee looking at the pictures from the soft ball game.  What's nice about the interview is the way the man who knew her kept describing her as beautiful and dazzling.  He sounded like he was completely in love with her. Nice.  Real nice.

I guess that no matter what we say, we have to admit that the writers created her character to be multi-faceted.  She could be kind, angry, amusing, down-to-business, laid-back, capricious, stubborn, forgiving, etc.  She could jump to conclusions or think things through.

Not sure you got an "A" in  french class.  I don't think it goes, "Menage a tres."   :-/

I think that would be Barney who wouldn't have earned an "A" in French class. The "...uno, duo, tres..." line was his. But I'm sure he wouldn't have had a clue what a menage a trois was even if he could have pronounced it. And that's probably a good thing! ;)

Thanks for posting that pic of Helen in "Off to Hollywood". I've always thought her hairdo there, before she went red and smaller in volume, was absolutely the worst she ever sported.

But there were quite a few other really bad hairdos in Mayberry. As lovely as Nurse Peggy was, her hairdo was definitely bizarre - and not current with any era I can think of, whereas Helen's beehive was what we gals all sported back in the mid-'60s. And I won't even mention Clara's 'do! :P

Like Mr. Dave Browne, I couldn't have stated it better myself.  Not to make a big ménage out of it (accent grave over the e, courtesy of Egbert Sousé, apparent sufferer of acute accent syndrome), but it was indeed Big Barn's mangling trifecta of Spanish, Italian, and French in a game attempt to instruct his boss in the origins of Trey/Troy Bowden's given name (episode 109, which see) to which I was alluding.

It is a french term meaning, literally; Eternal Triangle.  Although there are some other figurative meanings lost in Mayberry. But, literally speaking, it could mean Andy, <girlfriend of the moment>, and Barney.

the Mayberry hairdos never seemed far-fetched to me, growing up in the Carolinas in the 1960s, these were pretty much what I became accustomed to seeing!

A couple of things of interest on Aneta Corsaut. Her older brother is/was a world famous sculpter. His name is on the Hutchinson High School Hall of Fame and interestingly, Aneta's is not. Also her obit stated that was loved by many nieces, nephews and  friends and particularly Robert Waggoner(?)

I just figured we all saw it but would think it presumptuous and not in the Mayberry spirit to point it out!

Why yes it is.  Probably Andy's daddy's sister.  She never married, you know.
