I love how Barney becomes one of the kids when Andy tells the story about "the craziest gun".

Great to hear the Pledge of Allegiance in the classroom too.  ;)

This is where we meet the infamous Miss Crump for the first time I believe. For many the start of a love - hate relationship. ;D

One of my favorites.......I always loved history class. The boys were lucky to have a good looking , nice lady like Helen.
I had a history teacher that was retired from the army before becoming a teacher. We called her Sarge , but not to her face . ::) ::)

One of my favorite story telling moments from the show.

The beginning of ol' lady Crump.

One of my favorite episodes, too. And the highlight for me was definitely Andy's folksy telling of the gunshot heard around the world. I wish more episodes had included his story-telling. The only other one that comes to mind was him telling Opie about Romeo and Juliet in the Feud ep.

But as much as I enjoy this episode, and as many times as I have watched it, I still cringe at Aneta Corsaut's bad acting. [smiley=lipsrsealed.gif]

Yes, this was the episode which introduced old lady Crump.

Can't help but wonder what Andy was thinking?  I have to ask the question:

How could Andy give up this...

...for this...

?????

One might wonder why it was that Andy felt a need for a grouchy, domineering harpy in his life?!

Maybe Opie wasn't as smart as his grades would indicate?

I thought Aneta fit the bill as far as casting a school teacher and romantic interest for Andy. I did not care for some of the situations that the writers dreamed up for her. Over all, in my opinion, she was a good hire.

My mother was a school teacher and an extremely strict parent. I would have traded my mom for Miss Crump in a flash.

A fine episode, perfect for the Fourth Of July.

And Aneta was very good in this episode too.

Agree, as did every other 'bad' citizen of Mayberry.
